Anyone have a PC based (USB preferably) OBD2 scanner they like? I have a simple code reader, but I am looking for something more advanced to help keep my aging fleet on the road. I would like one that reads the senor values in particular...

I am fighting a P0106 MAP sensor problem in my Buick right now. Sensor has been replaced, and I have the factory service manual-but I need to read the sensor values.

I've got a USB one from www.autoenginuity.com. Very plug and play with real-time data. So far, haven't found anything it won't work with (gas and diesel). I bought the expansion modules for Ford, Chevy and Honda cause I needed the advanced features for ABS and transmission codes.

I just ordered one of these, it is suppose to be able to pull code, reset them and display some of them real time. I have not received this yet... I can't say for sure exactly how it works.

ScanGaugeII - Scan Tool + Digital Gauges + Trip Computers

Thanks Jim, I looked at that-but I am just not sure goes into sensor values and such? Not sure on this one yet-but would love to here your experience when you get it.

Cool, so the basic unit is $250.00 correct? I was hoping to stay under $200 but it's hard to choose-there are lots of them out there with big claims!

Whatever you do, don't lose the interface unit. Most of the ones I checked, they'll darn near give away the software but the USB interface costs almost the same as a whole package. Software coding..ain't it great :p

If you check Ebay, you might find it's $50.00 bucks cheaper AND the same vendor  I had a couple others, one in particular which came from a co. in WV, which are total junk. They claimed what they couldn't do and getting my money back was tough. I had to contact the WV AG's office for one of them  Hint, they had Pro in their name...

If you got bucks to spend....Snap-on has had some nice ones. chip programming capabilities, real time, etc...

Check out this obdII USb Scanner.

I have it since 2 years now and it is great. You can read sensors in real time and it is C.A.N compatible for newer cars ( 2006 and UP).

My two cents,

I have one of these and I am very happy with it.
It gives you the codes as well as live data for trouble shooting.

If you have a laptop with USB ports or a desktop you can get close to the vehicle, Check out AutoTap - OBDII Diagnostic Scanner I have it on my laptop and it has served me well. I got it when I was in the market for a new (used) vehicle and wanted to avoid problems. I have only used it twice on that vehicle for problems that were actually caused by blown fuse or loose connections. Without the scanner I would have been chasing my tail the way the symptoms presented them selves.

The web site has a lot of useful information and troubleshooting tips.
