I have a 3510 with a model ML112 FEL that we purchased about 2 months ago. The other day I noticed a small O-ring on the shaft of each of the cylinders that curl the bucket on the loader. They are outside of the cylinders just on the shaft. I looked in my manual and couldn't tell if they are supposed to be there or if they have come out of the end cap for the cylinders. The cylinders aren't leaking (yet) but I can't see any purpose for the O-rings outside the cylinders. Anybody else had any experience with this?

Thanks,
Dave

They did not come out of the cylinders they are apparently there to keep paint off the seal when they are painted . I try to remove them before the tractor goes on our yard so that people won`t think they have come out of the cylinder.

Thanks Poboy,

I knew it was unlikely that they had come out of the cylinder, but I thought I'd ask.

I don't think they are there for painting purposes. I had my curl cylinders rebuilt under warrantee. The seals that you are talking about were also on mind after they were rebuilt. Both of them, left and right came out and slid down the shaft about an inch. I took a small flat punch and actually drove them back in. They have not came back out since.

Just for the record my cylinders are leaking again. My dealer is replacing the complete cylinders this time.
My loader is a ML108 about 18 mos. old.

Who built the FEL? Is it a KMW or Great Bend? BobG in VA

Poboy is right, those O'rings are for paint purposes. ML108 Cylinders and ML112 Cylinders are made by two different companies anyway.

Dave,
It sounds like you may be seeing the wiper seal. Most Hydraulic cylinders have two seals in the rod cap, a pressure seal down inside the cap to stop leaks and a wiper seal at the end to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the hydraulic system when the cylinder is retracted. Or it may just be an extra seal to keep paint off the important seals. I haven't had to rebuild any of my cylinders (yet) so I'm not sure what all they stuffed in there /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, every manufacturer does things a little different, I've seen industrial cylinders with as few as two and as many as six seals in the rod cap /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I'd check with your dealer to make sure.

I thought it was a wiper seal also.
