O-Ring Question

Does anyone know why Kubota puts this O-ring on all the cylinder rods (see attachment)?

They have been slowly deteriorating and falling off so I’m wondering what purpose they might serve.

The only reason I have heard is to keep the shaft from getting painted when cylinder is being assembled and painted.
There must be another reason cannot see Kubota waisting all that money just to keep paint off the parts.

It is to keep the paint solvents from getting to the seals inside of the pistons while going through the painting process. In a perfect world, the dealers would remove these before you got the tractor during preparation for delivery. Since we all know that Kubota dealers don't operate in a perfect world, they are left to be removed by the customer.... just like the label on your new mattress.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wasn’t thinking about it until I found one on the ground. The paint thingy never came to mind but it makes perfect sense.

This has been my first tractor and after 300+ hours I’ve been very happy with the performance and reliability.

Thanks for the feedback – now I think I’ll go cut the rest of them off.

Might as well, although it really doesn't make a nickel's worth of difference whether you cut'em off or leav'em alone. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
