The short answer is "neither"
They both have they're place. A single grapple arm will do most everything a double will, with the advantage of less weight. A double grapple arm can do more faster in specific circumstances. A wider grapple (typical when they're are two grapple arms) can carry more at once (although not when it comes to brush) but a narrower grapple (typical when they're is only one arm, but not always) will allow you to "dig" more effectively.
I haven't found anyone on this forum with a single grapple arm that wished they had a double, and I haven't found anyone on this forum with a double arm that wish they had a single. (exception-some people make the mistake of buying a heavy duty skidsteer grapple that weighs over a thousand pounds and regret that)
Your probably better off telling us what your primary uses are for the grapple. Will you be carrying a lot of firewood, digging up stumps, using it as a root rake, picking up dead whales on the beach (see
www.wrlonginc.com) using it for around a sawmill, using it for only brush, using it to pick up rocks, move logs, rip out invasive plants etc.
I'll say this- based on quality of work, materials, strength and low weight, reviews and positive comments I've read (as well as the lack of negative comments), and some excellent customer service, I will strongly and whole heartedly recommend WR Long grapples.
What size tractor will you be putting it on and what model loader do you have?
Bottom line is you will be happy no matter what grapple you buy! Even the bolt on bucket grapples are extremely useful. It's amazing how much more productive your tractor will be. If you haven't checked out the pics on my thread "grappling fun" (or something like that) do a quick search for it and check out the pics that many of us posted.
