devotees,
got the bad(?) news yesterday. a neighbors' divorce has his ex getting the cul de sac's snow blading jeep. that means, i'll be responsible for clearing aside snow falls on 300 yds of our private road and cul de sac (4 homes) and at a minimum, 1 or 2 driveways, with my BX1850 (real seat time).
i know this means i need to add as much weight as i can to the tractor. which will give me the greatest preformance. ags with(rim guard)& wheel weights and ballast box weight or turf tires w/rubber chains, wheel weights. outside of the wheel weights, i will not be adding any weight inside the turf tires.
is this a situation where the critical factor is traction and weight and not the hp of the tractor? am the proverbial tractor newbie and need to be schooled . . . as i had thoughts of going into a bigger BX, like a bx2360 or bx 2660?
thanks in advance for any replies

Your profile does not state were you live so it will depend on the amount of snow you get in your area. It will also depend on the road surface (dirt, stone, asphalt, etc.).

For the BX line you get get a Kubota manual blade, hydraulic blade or snow blower for the front. You can also get a snow blower or blade for the rear.

Some folks on TBN do not mind backing up (looking over their shoulder) to clean up snow. I guess that does work as long as the driveway etc. that you are clearing is not to long. It also would allow you to leave the FEL on to move piles around etc. I like the front mounted blower or blade option myself. That is what I would get for your BX.

I personally have a B3030 with a Kubota quick hitch and front hydraulic blade. I have been very happy with it for the amounts of snow we get in Connecticut. Most storms here are in the 6 - 8 inch range with the occasional 12 - 15 inches. For larger snow amounts I would have ordered the Kubota front blower instead of the blade. For light to medium snows the blade is the best way to go and the fastest. I have rear loaded R4 "industrial" tires on my B3030 and they can spin in the snow. I have heard from other TBN folks that Turf tires actually get the best bite in snow without chains. I also have a asphalt main driveway and a crushed stone side driveway.

Good luck in your decision.

As a NH resident on the coast, we get plenty of snow and often it is the WET heavy slushy stuff. I have a 7510, with loaded turf tires, front bucket and rear 5' blade and havent had any problems clearing snow. The LOADED tires are great. My driveway is paved with a 12-15% grade and I can go up or down hill no problem.

And as a note on the loaded tires...I used my tractor all summer after taking down 80 foot pines, and was easily able to move 6-8 foot sections (500 -600lbs - maybe more) with out needing a rear weight box, allowing me to keep my 2" trailer reciever adapter on the 3 point....

I may go to a 6 foot blade this year...because I lose a little when I angle it.

God luck, but weight boxes are a pain, and then you can't use a rear blade /blower etc.

I'd consider a front mount blower. Good luck

You may want to consider getting a front blade. I have the 60" manual angle blade on my BX1850 which was only slightly more than what I would have paid for a rear blade. I do a long driveway and several neighbors as well and have very little trouble. I don't like to turn around and plowing is like doing it with a plow truck. Also, I don't have to worry about adding any weights or chains.

a front blade and if you keep up with the snow, you will do fine, I have cleared a few drive ways with a neighbors bx1500 with just a FEL. but as long as you dont't let the snow get to deep, you wil be able to keep up with the depth with little diufficulty. load the tires and some front ballast weight and you should do good too.

A300 yard road and a minimum of 2 side driveways.Iwould definitely use a blower/loader [or blade combo],front rear which ever you prefer. With my 23 im able to sit sideways on the seat and run the treddle pedal with my left foot, and im comfortable and my neck aint cranked around.I learned this trick from my job as a forklift operator,i have to carry two large stacks of lumber at a time ,so i have to travel backwards most of the time.If your even thinking of a rear snowblower make sure you will be comfortable .The front ones are alot more money and you lose your loader ,something i cant do without ,because i have areas where its needed.

guys,
sorry, i've yet to complete my profile. when i purchased the bx, i ordered the loader valve, fel, hd 60" 2763 blade & ballast box. i figured i'd update the profile after i selected a tiller and got the spyker set up.
initially, i was just doing my driveway (about 300 ft. plus parking area), and periodically the street, when my neighbor was out of town or couldn't do it. then i was using, and still have a honda 8hp track snowthrower (it did a good job, but took to long . . . and with my history of injury--age and clumsiness,
my wife agreed to the subcut buy. the honda turned out to be great insurance, because after i purchased it . . . we didn't get any appreciable snow for 5 or 6 years . . . the honda only had maybe twenty hours run time . . . with that reference point, i went with hd front blade (also because of cost of the bx snowthrower).
our property is located a stone's throw from valley forge national park, outside king of prussia . . . 35 miles outside of philadelphia pa. we've had mild winters in recent years . . . i guess, i'm fearful of a mega storm . . . but can't wait to really get my diesel roaring. shrekbelly, thanks

Load turf tires! no more issues with weight, either when lifting a loaded bucket, or pushing snow...

1*I have cleared a couple of real lite snows with my BX23 FEL.
2*I have the 60" hydraulic angle front blade on my BX1500.
Last winter I went through a 4'' snow plowing it like butter.
3*I don't fool with weight boxes.
I just use the BH on the BX23 and the Tiller on the used BX1500 for rear weight.
4*I can i just put them on the new BX1500 which usually has the 3 point hitch available
5*I don't loose the loader as it's still on the BX23.

1*I have a BX1500 with a front 60'' Blade.
It has AG tires That are not filled and no wheel weights or chains.
I just use the tiller for rear ballast.
This thing will move tons of snow.
Just put a front blade on your BX1850 and something on the 3 point hitch for rear ballast and you're good to go.
There is no need to load the BX1850 down with scads of wheel weights and gallons of fluid in the tires.
2*I would go with AGs and some 3 point implement so I could forget about rim guard wheel weights ballast box & chains.
3*HP won't be a problem.
4* You don't need a bigger BX.
I have a bigger BX and doubt it would perform all that much better than my BX1500 or your BX1850.
