Found a used M 9000 I had to have so it weights about 5800lbs without loader. If I wanted to carry a mower and BB and maybe load tires what axles would I need?

Sparkkky, I think you can pretty well go by the other thread responses. You're going to need substantial trailer to carry that monster around.

You're going to need a heavy duty tow vehicle and a larger high cap trailer to carry it all. You may be getting into the territory where you will have to have a CDL driver license to operate the whole rig.

If you're planning on getting new-to-you vehicle and trailer, you might want to consider a gooseneck trailer. Check with your seller and find out what he's been using, or if he can recommend what you might need.

A friendly tractor dealer could also probably fill you in on what's appropriate.

Going to pull it with my 2004 6.0L 250 Superduty. Don't think the few times a year I move it from farm to farm will be that big of a deal. Its starting to get big but its really not that much I don't think.

Sparkky,

You will need a 22' or better a 24' long 12 ton or 14 ton trailer. The tractor outfitted will be right around 10,000 pounds. If you get an 8' cutter, you will need the 24' trailer to keep it all on. You CAN get a shorter trailer and tag the part that hangs over with a red flag. BUT, the filled tires will be farther back and can mess up weight distribution. You are probably into goose neck trailers as being the only good option for that weight as the hitch weight is getting up there for a bumper pull.

As long as the TOTAL weight of the truck and trailer are 26,000 or less pounds, you DON'T need a CDL. (at least here in WI, double check your state)

I'll second the recomendation for the goose neck for the kind of weight you are dealing with.

I apear to have left my brain in neutral as I typed the post above.

It should real 12 or 14 k --- as in thousand pounds. NOT ton. My bad. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't know John, can you have a trailer that is too big? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif We have a 24 ton 38' tilt lowbed, and it has been too small a few times. I don't think that you were wrong, he just needs a bigger tow vehicle /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Right. I was trying to work with what he has, and hoping he can avoid license hassles as well.

He's bought a pretty good size machine, and is going to be able to use a lot of mower. He's going to need a hefty outfit, for sure.

So 5800 lbs naked, plus a couple hundered for chains, say 6000. A 1000 lb BB, a 1500 lb mower, and 1000 lbs of loaded tires. Let's round to 10,000 lbs including fuel and more chains. Understand that adding a loader will bring another 2000 lbs or so to the package.

The minimum 14000k GVWR trailer will weigh about 4000 lbs. I see the 14k bumper pull, car hauler type, trailers pretty frequently at trailer lots but I gotta tell you that you would be right at the max and I don't like using trailers right at the limit.

I would rather see you with a 20k# trailer in a gooseneck for the F250. You might have to order it and it might cost double what the typical 10k# carhauler would.
