Now I gon an\' Dunnit..

1st tractor- 1953 Allis, 2nd tractor- 1959 IH. Just got a '94 B1750 w/loader and mid mower and I'm lost amidst the new-fangled doohickeys on it.While I wait for an owners manual,I have a couple "important" questions:

1) Do I need to use the clutch for the HST ?

2) Is the HST pedal supposed to return to neutral when your foot is taken from it? (I hope not - mine doesn't) If so-???

3)What the heck is the "speed control" lever supposed to do?

First time with a loader, HST, Diesel. Just think of the mess I can make!

Re: Now I gon an\' Dunnit..

Aschk -- I traded in my 1750 on an L3010 last year, but still remember a bit about it.

1: Nope
2: Yes (check the linkages for rust, proper lube, etc. I think there's a grease fitting on the pedal pivot point but can't be positive)
3: Cruise control. Set a forward speed and engage the speed control lever to maintain it. Doesn't work in reverse.

The hydraulics are a bit underpowered on that machine, but you can still have a lot of fun with the loader if you don't try to take huge bites.

Have fun; it's a great compact!

Yes it is. Take it apart and install a grease fitting. Or just spray the crap out of it with anti-cease spray lub and do it regular.

Using your tractor like this can be very dangereous.

Re: Now I gon an\' Dunnit..

1) The manual says to use the clutch to change gear ranges, but it's not necessary so long as the tractor is sitting completely still and the HST pedal is centered (in neutral).

2) Yes, it should center itself (return to neutral) when you let off with your foot and you do not need to use the clutch to stop or change directions from forward to reverse - sounds like a spring is missing under the floor.

3) Speed control is a cheap imitation of cruise control. Set the speed you want to go with the HST pedal and if you want to continue at that speed without keeping your foot on the pedal, set the speed control. It just holds the HST pedal in place.

Have fun with the new tractor.

Re: Now I gon an\' Dunnit..

Thanks for the information. I'll get to looking into it as soon as it gets light enough outside. I'll also do a total fluid and filter change on this poor, neglected machine. It has only 550 hrs., but I have a feeling that some of those hours were pretty hard.

Re: Now I gon an\' Dunnit..

i use the clutch whenever iam putting tractor in gear or engaing pto. hst pedal is supposed to return to netural and stop tractor.if it is not returning at all then as bird suggest you may have a broken or missing spring, but if it is returning part of the way it just might need a good greasing(mine has a grease fitting) or spraying.be careful! not good to operate it that way.
