Has anyone tried to replace the original fuel filter assembly with something else. I have a 2005 TC 48 DA, 4wd with loader. Bought it new in 05' works really well. The last 3-4 years seems like the diesel supply has gotten nastier. I have filters on the pump tank and never use cans to fuel up but I still get water in my tractor fuel. The original fuel filter system works but its hard to get water out of the separator and the more water that get in the separator the nastier the filter gets. So I thought I would just replace the system an upgrade I hope. The original equipment says its a 19 micron.

Check out marine fuel conditioning systems... they are designed for fail-safe water and crude removal, and I have seen them for reasonable prices on eBay.

As of yet I haven't found anything

I use a Mr Funnel also and even with a new fuel can, I am shocked at the crud and moisture that the filter captures. There is usually a cup or so of fuel left in the filter that I pour in a gallon jug for fire starter, cleaning greasy junk, etc.

Highly recommend it regardless of how you store or filter fuel.

Wow, I've never had a fuel problem. Tractor is inside and the cans are too. I have 2 plastic 5 gal cans that sit on wood to keep them off the floor. Over 14 years, there has been less than a teaspoon of questionable matter. I also use a auto paint mix filter in my funnel just in case.

This isn't a filter problem. It is a fuel quality/handling/storage problem. Period. Making it easier and more expensive to change the fuel filter isn't a cure, it's a BandAid.

Do you have a drain on your storage tank? Is it at the lowest point? If you do make sure it is low and if not move the tank if possible and after it has not been touched for a couple of days drain some off.

I would also look into upgrading your filter and possible even nozzle and hose coming off your storage tank. As Rick pointed out your problem is with the storage and handling. Once you get that solved if possible drain some from the bottom of the tractors tank, again if possible after it has set for a few days so the water can fall out.

How old is the fuel in your storage tank? it might have algae in it. Might want to look into additives for the fuel like stanadyne performance formula. It helps with water, gelling and several other issues.
TSC also sells a water absorbing filter other members here seem to like. It too would mount to your fuel pump of your storage tank.

I filter all my fuel for the 55DA and it isn't a problem. Clean waterless fuel makes a happy diesel.
