Bought a used 2305 late fall last year from dealer with 330 hours. Decided to change the HST oil since it's age and status was unknown. I am guessing it had never been changed. It is not stated in the manual, but by far the easiest way to get access to the filter and strainer is to jack up the rear end and remove the left rear tire. With a mower deck on, it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to do unless the tractor was 3-4 ' in the air and came from below. Removing the filter and drain plug was easy and straight forward. The removal of the strainer is a poor design. I give it a rating of 1-2/10. There is a return hard line that connects to the strainer cover. There is a short 90 hose connecting the hard line to the cover. All in a tight, cramped space. Not easy to remove the stiff hose from the cover and nearly impossible to replace. Found it much easier to unbolt the entire hard line from the tractor (3 small bolts) and then replace the hose and reconnect the hard line again. Having done it once, it will be much easier to do next time. Hopefully this maybe helpful to someone in the future.

The strainer contained 4 small magnets to help hold any metal shavings. Multiple small shavings on the strainer but I did not feel it was excessive.

Thanks for the info. I have 2009 2305 and I haven't got to the point to change
the Hydro oil yet. Hope you like your tractor.

Agreed. I wish there was an easier way to access that screen. No problem draining or changing the filter, but that screen is a PITA. :mur:

Only put on 4-5 hours of mowing since got it late last fall. It will mostly be a mowing machine and some other minor tasks. It will be used on a property 90 miles away from where I live. I wanted to get a zero turn but mowing will be done by several different people (sisters, neices, nephews). When others tried to use my Exmark zero turn, they could not get the controls and didn't like the zero turn. The 2305 mows quietly and is fairly nimble. Should be a good machine.

Hope this helps , I have not tried this but I'm going to try when I do mine at 450 hr.
Looks like it should be a lot easier to even by taking the back wheel off and doing the steps they show.

Have to remove one rear wheel to service the hydraulic filter on the 4010, too. Its filter is located behind one of the 3ph bars. Can't extract the bar without removing a wheel. My 450 hour change is coming up.

I don't plan to change out the gear box oil in the front. Main reason for doing the hydraulic oil is because of the filter. It doesn't last forever; whereas, the oil would go a lot longer without degradation.

The link showed the picture of removing the 3 bolts from the hardline that connects to the cover on the oil screen. I think that is one of the keys on the 2305 to remove/replace the right angle hose from the screen cover. I wished I had seen that link before I proceeded on my own. We both came to similar a conclusion.

I do think removing the back wheel is relatively easy and gives great access to the cover/strainer. It appears in the link, the rear wheel was removed. I believe the rear left wheel also needs to come off to get access to the 3 bolts on the hard line. If you remove the rear wheel, you don't need to raise the tractor in the air on jack stands. I used a large oil pan to catch the oil. It takes 3.4 gallons to change the HST oil and therefore takes a sizable container/pan. That maybe why the other link used a 5 gallon bucket and had to raise the tractor.

One other thing, if your replacement hydraulic fluid is clear, have someone watch the bubble as you fill. You can easily not know that the reservoir is filled because once you fill past the bubble, the **** thing still looks empty!!!.....not that this happened to me or anything....

I have done the HST screen twice on my 2210. Both times was able to loosen that hose and pivot it enough to pop the screen out and in no problems. I just move both hose clamps to the middle of the hose and presto! it pops off of the screen cover fairly easy. They tell me it's not possible but I've done it twice! That hose is more flexible than it looks. It could be easier but it isn't that bad if you cheat enough. ;0) I don't jack up the tractor, just remove the mower and lay a sheet of cardboard down to lay on.
The 2210 is now pushing 500 hours and I will be doing the 500 hr valve lash service myself.

This looks like a lot of good information. I have a 08' 2305 and am due for the 50 hours engine oil and hydro also I believe. Just picked up the fluids the other day. Glad I don't have to replace it too often. Stuff is pretty expensive on the Deere side. Should get around to these tasks in the next couple/few weeks.
