Sorry, guys, had to share this. Just picked it up today. It's a 1977 Caterpillar D4D, weighs in around 22,000 pounds. Starts on the first revolution without a block heater! Runs like a dream. Drivetrain is 95%, aside from the grouser pads, which are fine. No leaks anywhere. All fluids perfect. Bought it from a service manager for Hyster for about 1/3 of what I paid for my 790. New muffler, new seat, and a coat of paint are all she needs.

Plus, she's got a PTO winch on her that could probably alter the orbit of the moon. Should be fun!

Let's just say it will pick up where my box blade leaves off!

Congratulations on your new find, just remember dozers can get stuck too, then you are really stuck. I think I would add a muffler to it so you can hear everything and run it for awhile and see what you have. Good Luck with it;

Thanks, Jenkinsph. I've got a good feeling about this one. Anything that starts as good as this one, and has hydraulics that work this well, and steers, etc., is off to a good start.

Good luck with your new toy! , As a heavy equipment operator by trade i spend alot of time on cat stuff and the older stuff is built better then the new! The other guy is right about getting it stuck ! If you dont have other iron to dig it out think twice about the really wet spots , ( although you do have a winch) ??

Thanks, Kevin. Yep, I hear the D4D is a solid machine. I like that older iron myself. I'm stoked.

I don't have anything that would touch this dozer if it got stuck. First order of business is to get a hundred or so feet of 3/4" cable on that winch so I can go play! I understand the winch is oversized for the dozer and will pull the dozer up just about any grade...or out of any hole...

I'm jealous! I know it is a very capable machine because I've rented one a few times (one week rental at a time) to clear stumps and smooth out terrain here on this old farm. About had a coronary a couple of times when it bottomed out in very soft ground and got stuck. Just have to be careful but like you said it will do well in picking up where your smaller implements leave off. Good luck with your new toy.
