Hey Bill,
Look like some pretty good prices. I suspect they are feeling some impact from Homier's Farm Pro tractors cutting into their sales, and are responding. This could get interesting.
Homier's does not offer a 20HP with 4WD---probably why Northern picked this one to discount.
Other than this one, they both have the same tractors available. Homier's has taken some bad press because (IMHO) they sell at their so-called road shows AND because they are relatively new to selling these tractors . As a result they have probably made some mistakes, but the research I have done on Homier's is that they are really good at selling, and are a strong and large company, financially sound and aggressive. I doubt that they will take this lying down--that is why I think this could get interesting.

One question I have is why can't Northern make up their mind whether this 20HP tractor is a two or a three cylinder engine. Their literature is conflicting.
I called them on this --their catalog said three cylinder, but when I questioned them --I was told it was a two cylinder.
I believe it is , in fact, a two cylinder.

Hey Dan,

I think you're right about the engine. Their online brochure says it's a 2 cylinder. I've seen one at the local Northern Tool store (less than a mile from my office), so I think I'll go by there tomorrow and remove all doubt. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It does seem like a good buy at $5300 + attachments. If I had a budget for a new tractor, and it was under $10k, I might give these a hard look.

I enjoyed the visit. You've got a nice place there, with lots of good CUT options. See you next time I'm through your area.

the 2 cylinders are a lot cheaper than the 3 cylinder 20 hp, so i assume the 2 cylinders are the ones on sale. but also remember - homier sells the cheap chinese loaders and northern sells great bend. lot of difference in the great bend vs. chinese loader. homier offers 20hp in 2wd version only, with no power steering. and believe me, as far as parts, i sure would have a lot more faith in northern than homier! if homier DID have any parts needed, they probably couldn't tell ya' where it goes or what it's for. had a gentleman a few weeks ago that said he had paid homier for a part with visa card (starter or alternator if i remember correctly) and it had been 12 weeks!! why he was paying i don't know, but guess warranty is only as good as those that give it.

Our current 20HP Tractor (Item #188023) is a three cylinder engine. We used to sell the 2 cylinder 20HP (Item #188000). Hence, some old literature may still be around. Check the expiration date of the flyer, literature.

We still have some of the 2 cylinder 20HP tractors left at our retail stores. Our parts inventory for the 2 cylinder is as strong as ever and will be for the forseable future.

Northern Tool's current promotion on package #'s 188005, 188006, and 188009 all describe the tractor engine as 2 cylinder. Is that a mistake, or do these packages include the older 20hp (#188000) tractor?

EDIT:
I just stopped by the Northern Tool store - and came out with about 6 items I didn't know I needed until I got there. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, the tractor on display is the 25HP with the Great Bend loader. The 20HP tractor in the catalog is the 188023 (3 cylinder) and all the 20HP package deals include that unit. Their sale prices are $100 more than the on-line catalog price, but I'm sure that's less than the freight charges to just about anywhere.

It's a mistake.

All the 20HP packages come with a 3 cylinder engine, except for the 3 that are remaining at a couple of stores. (I can't remember off hand which stores those are.) We've been selling the 3 cylinder for some time now.

The correct brochure should be on the website NorTrac Website by now. Something happened when the site was updated and the old brochure was loaded.

So let me ask you this: when one of these needs service, where do you take it, and how do you get warranty service? I have an old gasoline tractor/loader now, and I can do some work on it myself. However, I don't even kid myself about learning to be a diesel mechanic... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif How is service (particularly warranty service) handled with a machine bought from the store or from the catalog/website?
