I was looking online at these tractors and was looking for feedback on bang for the buck. The price seems good but the dealer does not have anything for me to checkout.I am worried about buying blindly.

Hey Tim Wil, can you tell me more about your experience with this tractor? It doesn't sound like you are too impressed. I appreciate any feedback on this tractor because I was seriously considering buying it.

Ed, you did notice Tommy of 'Affordable Tractors' posting above that the Nortrac tractors are simply Chinese made tractors with the "Nortrac" brand name replacing the more often seen "Jinma" marque?

I may be wrong but it sounds like you've focused on the Nortrac version as if it were a unique brand name with qualities and features of it's own. It is not that, and it seems to me that Northern Tools is making customers pay for the supposed free shipping by setting their prices at least $1000. higher than the going rate amongst other sellers.

I did look on Affordible Tractots. I am going to contact them. I only posted Nortrac because as a rookie I didn't know about the name. At this site I am learning a lot. The tractor I have looked at are all big names and big prices. This is why I was asking about other brands which I never heard of. My focus is on not being able to go to a dealer to look at the tractors before buying. The feedback I am getting is good but I am still a little gunshy about shelling out that amout of cash and not seeing in person.

If you put a little info in your profile, like where you are located, perhaps one of the dealers who frequent here may be in your area. Also some of the users may chime in with knowledge of dealers in your area. Heck, you may even hear from some kind soul in your area who will invite you over to take a look at theirs:)

What size tractor are you looking for. If a smaller one say a 25HP, Google "Jinma 254" or "Jinma 284" and you will get a lot of search results, many from dealers websites. Perhaps one will be in your area and you can go get some look-see there.

I think these machines are best paired with someone who is mechanically inclined, or at least indipendent/self sufficient. Do you do your own tuneups and oil changes? Have you ever removed a cylinder head to replace a leaking headgasket? These are certainly not pre-requisites, but it certainly helps if you are not afraid of a wrench. These machines are pretty basic, and very easy to work on with a few simple tools and perhaps a large capacity floor jack and jack stands. If you are not inclined to this sort of work, then a good servicing dealership in your area, particularly one who stands behind what they sell, will make things a lot easier if you should encounter any problems.

I love my Jinma 284, it is a real brute for it's size. I did quite a bit of research and insisted on some hands on before I bought one, but one of the main reasons I did was because of the numbers being sold. There are a lot of Jinma dealers and a lot of the 25HP being sold. This means a lot of available parts if something should fail. I can fix anything if I have the parts:)

My nearest dealer at that time was 1 hour away. I bought from a dealer more than 2 hours away based on reputation and price. I have had 2 minor problems with mine in 2 1/2 years, both happened within the first few weeks and the dealer I bought from had me replacement parts within 24 hours on both occasions. A good dealer will setup these properly and perform the required service. This in itself will head off most of the potential problems.

Good Luck

Ed,

Ron's info is excellent (as usual from him) - there is a need on the part of any owner of a Chinese made tractor perform or directly participate in maintenance and/or repair actions as the tractor needs.

There IS a lot of help available to do it. You've found this forum, have you also found the Chinese Tractor Owners Association - Helping Each Other With Tractor Knowledge ?
It is a small fee forum that focusses on these tractors and Chinese built bulldozers only.

Let us know where you are. If it turns out that you're near me you'll be entirely welcome to come look and drive, maybe even buy a new 2007 Jinma 254! :) this one, in fact: http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p263/twagger/Jinma.jpg
