I know it's supposed to be normal but does anybody else out there get chills up and down their spine when it happens. I'm talking about that metalic rattle that occurs as we use an implement like a rear snow blower and have the PTO engaged. We get the clack clack clack when we step down on the clutch and that sounds like we just dropped a monkey wrench between a gear and pinion.

Other than throttling down to an idle beforehand, is there any way to diminsh that darned rattle. Sheesh! I don't like hearing my ck-20 grumbling about anything because we have too much work to do.

Must be a ck20 thing? Didn't notice any nosies like that when mowing this summer and backing up,but I got a ck 30,ck 20 must have something other than duel stage clutch, maybe an internal pto thing a ma jig? Some kabotas have that.

If I remember correctly, it was posted a while ago that this noise is the overrun clutch that prevents the implement from running the transmission. I have the same noise in my CK20S when I push the clutch with the finish mower running. I have found that if I slip the PTO off without pushing the clutch, I don't get the noise, but I don't know if this does more damage than good, so I almost always use the clutch.

Edit: Here is the thread I was thinking of: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kioti-owning-operating/128875-kioti-ck-20s-hydro-question.html

If I remember correctly the CK 20 gear does not have a live PTO.
When you depress the clutch the PTO stops and the clicking you are hearing is the overrunning clutch freewheeling as the PTO and implement is slowing/winding down.

Just for reference I will say it again, Don't use the clutch to disengage the PTO. It might be necessary for a mower or something but definitely not my snowblower.

No clutch for disengageing pto?,well if it works in works, anybody else disengage with out pushing in clutch?
Course you got hst, never used one,do you push in a clutch when you engage?

Yes, PTO to engage clutch on CK30HST as it is a geared deal. But no, there is no clackity clack. Not sure they use an overrun clutch on the HST.

It may be an HST thing but since the original poster has an HST also, it will work the same. I do use the clutch to engage the PTO, I have never tried to engage it without the clutch and never will. I also use the clutch to switch from Low to High gear and hit the brake as well since it makes the gears go in much easier.

Also, the CK20 does have a Live PTO.

The CK 20 HST has live PTO.
The CK 20 gear does not. It has a tranmission driven PTO. When the clutch is depressed the PTO will stop.
All the other CK gear models have live PTO with a 2 stage clutch.

hey guys:

i have the ck20hst also. i always throtle down and engage clutch to shift in and out of hi/lo range. the only pto item i use is a snowblower. i also always throtle down and engage the clutch to engage and disengage the rear pto. when i disengage, i do get some clackity clack noise. nothing major though...

shouldn't the clutch always be engaged for all gear changes and mid and rear pto use ? any dealers out there have some input ?

thanks
jim
