I bought a used Mahindra Tractor with a fairly new Howse 5' mower. The mower which I'm not used to, makes some really eerie sounds like a dog whimpering (if you will) loudly. It is not consistent but concerns me. Is there reason for concern. It only does it when I'm mowing. If I stop and raise the deck it sounds like a large fan or blower. Any ideas?

Is it belt driven? Sometimes if a belt is starting to slip it will make whining sounds.

My truck has a similar issue. It sounds like I have a bird under my hood, with a steady and regular chirp until it warms up.

I have the same mower and it is very loud. Mine has a large horse power gear box and I think the gears are larger cut. Checked and filled with oil. Been using 2 years and no problems.

It is gear box driven and I think the noises I am hearing are normal based on everything I've checked. Thanks for the input, guys

If this is a finishing mower with belts, I'd try a little belt dressing to see if that quiets it down. If it does, you might want to check the tension on the belts. It's also possible a belt is getting ready to let go...

I use regular hand soap for belt dressing. it sure shuts up those squawking belts in a hurry.
