Noisy Massey 35

When we bought our farm I purchased a 35 Massey Deluxe. Used it to clean the place up. Bush Hogging hedge rows, moving logs, digging holes for trees, spreading fertilizer and lime at 4,800 hrs it was running fine except for a knock coming from the bottom of the engine. A bearing or wrist pin maybe. I could hear it at an idle but not at higher engine speeds. I'm not saying it went away I just couldn't hear it. At the risk of catastrophic failure I bought a 231s Massey that's been a great machine. Now that money's a little looser I like to have the 35 looked at. Any thoughts what it could be.

unless she's on distalate.. that looks like a carb to me on that dual manifold.

as a gasser? I wouldn't hesitate to:

1, put a calibrated oil gauge on her and see what oil pressur eis when you hear the knocking.

if oil pressure good, then pull 1 plug wire at a time and see if knock is associated with a cyl

then.. drop the pan and inspect that jug.. or if not assoicated with a specific cyl.. drop pan and look at main caps for discoloration.. might have spun a bearing at one time..

plus then you can look at crank journals and bearing shells, and will know more. can also feel wrist pin, and lok at liners or bore and pistons and see if evidence of piston slap.

lots of options.. depending on what wrong.
