WE own and operate the trusty-rusty Massey Ferguson 65 with a MF FEL.
Upon purchase, the left actuator rod for the brakes was missing. We were given the part at purchase, but, as in all things did not immediatly install the piece. Not knowing the length of time it has operated on the right brake only, we can assume that it was considerable. The tractor makes a noise like an elephant trumpeting when nearing a complete stop. It sounds like it is coming from near the fender.
The actuator has been replaced and adjusted to equal height to the right pedal, then, slightly more sensitive to compensate for the potential of the right brakes being bad. This unit has dry brakes which are in the axle housing near the transmission housing itself.
The post is for two reasons.
One. Could the noise be from the planetary gears which could be failing, but, are only able to be heard at near stopping speeds?
Two. Could the sound be only caused by over used and depleted brake pads?
Would there be somewhere a pdf or some other repair manual or service manual procedure to outline the teardown and repair of the brakes and the planetary gear assemblies?
We have access to AGCO part book, so parts are able to be found.
