I have a strange noise coming from behind the oil filter. The noise sounds like a bearing rotating around. It is loudest when I first start the tractor a YM146 same as a GT14. Before I get into it I would like to know if anyone else has had any problems like this. I also have a voltage regulator problem. I have fried 3 of them and the battery never charges. Does anyone know a solution or a workaround, maybee using a alternator instead of a generator?

Thanks Dan

I still haven't figured out what the noise is. It only happens when the tractor first starts and continues for 3-4 minutes. I sounds like a whirling noise and it is coming from the oil filter.

Have you by chance tried changing the oil filter? I'm wondering if it's a faulty bypass valve in the filter that is making the noise. When the oil starts to warm up it get thinner, pressure drops and the noise goes away. It's worth a try changing the filter if you have not done so yet.
