No water pressure at kitchen faucet? All other faucets working fine.

Hi. I am dealing with a weird problem that has me stumped. The water was coming out of the faucet just great yesterday. And then this morning it would slow to a trickle. I pulled the supply lines out, both hot and cold and ran them into a bucket. Water came rushing out. Good water pressure through the lines.

So I went to home depot today and picked me up a new Glacier bay 17 dollar faucet. (one of those plastic ones) and still the same problem.

I have great water pressure at the rest of the faucets in the house.

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem. I want to get my kitchen water back lol.


I've already checked the aerator. And another thing. When I loosen the supply lines the water wants to come out of the faucet just for a bit then slow down.

It will also sometimes start to come out when I unscrew and take off the spout. This is really weird to me and I have never seen anything like it before.


Took the cartridge out of the faucet to check for any obstructions and nothing. I then got a clothes hanger and ran it down through the little hole that leads to the supply line. As soon as I got through the supply line the water comes gushing out. But then when I shut the water back off and put the cartridge back in. The water comes on for a bit and then slows to a trickle once again.

And then no water. The bathtub, toilet and bathroom sink all have water without a problem. It's just the kitchen faucet that has little to no water coming out.

Sounds like there is some kind of obstruction in the supply line(s). You might try letting them run a bit longer when disconnected and running into a bucket and see if anything comes out.

Also, are the lines new or old? If they are old they could have a tear on the inside that restricts the water. You might try replacing the supply lines and see if that helps.

You pushed the obstruction and it moved to let the water pass. Then with the water on and off it fell in place again to again block the flow.

Could be calcium or a piece of pipe, or some white plumbers tape flowing in from who knows where. Could be some plumbers putty, again from somewhere.

On some of the older homes I find the blockage at the angle stop or just behind it in the elbow...

Usually, removing the angle stop and then having someone turn on the water will let me flush the line while using an old screw driver to loosen things up.

Almost always seems to be the hot side with the problems.

The newer faucets are also much more sensitive to sediment... doesn't take much for a problem to develop.

Or maybe an obstruction in the supply lines.

Thanks guys. I tried the faucet on the bathroom lines and still hardly any pressure through the faucet.

I don't know whether it's my well pump not putting out enough pressure to feed these cheap faucets or what. But I do have great pressure at the other faucets.

When I took the spout off. The holes that fed the spout were a lot smaller than my other one.

Another weird thing is. When I turn the bathtub faucet on. The water starts coming out the kitchen faucet.

I'm gonna back feed my water line with my parents city water tomorrow and see if the faucet works any better or not.

This is just really puzzling. :confused2:

I had a similar problem a few years ago, but it was in the shower instead of the kitchen. I called a plumber out, and he blew high pressure air from the outside after removing the shower head. I don't recall how he tapped into the water supply line.

A piece of Teflon tape blew out, and all was good to go. It was not in the shower head, but up inside the pipe somehow. He said the tape had probably been in there since the house was built.

The "water coming out kitchen faucet when I turn bathtub on" made me laugh, and really is puzzling!

One thing I wanted to mention is that in a kitchen faucet, if it has one of those "sprayers" hooked into it, there is a mechanism that causes the water to go to the sprayer and turn off the supply through the faucet's spigot. I've had one of these go bad on me before, so that when I squeezed the sprayer handle, it stopped water out the main spigot (except a trickle), but nothing came out the sprayer either.

Anyway, I think you get the idea... something else to check. Best of luck!

If this faucet has a diverter valve, I'm suggesting it may be blocked...possibly with sediment.

The "water coming out kitchen faucet when I turn bathtub on" made me laugh, and really is puzzling!

It made me laugh too.

And I was like wtf? I had left the kitchen faucet on and went to see if there was still pressure in the bathtub lines. I turned the bathtub faucet on and heard water gushing out.

Then I went to turn the bathtub faucet back off and came back in and the water was still running in the kitchen. :confused2:

I was thinking. What am I gonna have to do? Go turn the bathtub on and then back off every time to get water out the kitchen tap? XD :laughing:

I finally remembered I had another faucet that came from an old house we are tearing down and decided to try it.

And what do ya know? It works with full pressure and I don't have to turn the bathtub on first. It has bigger openings for the water to flow through too.

I was finally able to get my dishes washed. They were really starting to pile up the last few days.

If I hadn't got this fixed by today. I was gonna get my dishes together and head next door to my parents house and use their dishwasher.

I just didn't feel like lugging them there and back.
