L-48 Kubota
I have a year 2000 Kubota L-48 with only 1300 hours; front end loader and back hoe. AWESOME machine and no problems til recently! I turn the key to start with the clutch depressed and absolutely nothing. Battery is new!...all contacts on terminals cleaned. Can anybody HELP me solve this? THANKS! jimmy

ok youve already checked and changed the battery.so it sounds like your starter has quit on you.so it needs tobe taken off took in and checked.

Hold it before you go to all the work of removing the starter make sure it's the starter that's the problem. Is the pto shut off? Don't laugh I've done service calls for this. Does the tractor need to be in neutral or clutch pushed in before starting? Could be one of those switches. Could also be a disconnected wire somewhere. Check your fuses and the starter relay.

Ok so a quick way to check out the starter would be to access it and run a jumper wire from the battery post to the wire that engages the solenoid. If you try this please make sure the tractor is in neutral, key off and park brake on just for your own safety. :) If the starter turns the engine over the problem is elsewhere.

Usually the solenoid goes before the starter, you should have some type of response from the solenoid whether it be a click or something. It is very rare they stop making noise one day. You may have noticed it previously during your recent start ups. This my cause concern that the solenoid was going. If you haven't experienced that i would start looking else ware. Good way to test is like previously stated jump the starter. That will test the unit itself, i would check the power from switch to starter. Remove the lead on the solenoid and put a test light on it. When you turn the key you should have power, if no power than there is a safety somewhere that has been tripped, or the ignition switch is gone. Do you have lights when you turn the key on? or maybe a faulty safety switch or pto on etc.
Also just for giggle check to make sure your battery has power, just in case you received a faulty battery.

I don't know if a L-48 is similar to a L5030. On the L5030 there is a connector just a few inches from the hot terminal on the battery - mine was corroded and filled with dirt and exhibited the same symptoms you are having. There is also a fuse block near the battery than can be an issue.

Chances are it is a switch.

FWIW...
With the key turned to the start position...try wiggling the PTO/trans. levers...

If one of my PTO levers is not in the exact neutral position I get the same thing....

Get a test light with a clip on the end and a light in the handle on the probe end. Harbor freight type item. Start by clamping to a good ground and follow the flow of electrical current. If it goes into the switch does it come out? Is it hot going into the solenoid? Just think it through until you find the problem.. My clutch pedal has a spot that has to be just right to crank over.

You might want to check all safety switches (clutch, seat, PTO etc) as they will cancel starting.
Direct jumper to starter solenoid can confirm.
Another very common ailment is the started switch itself. The lubs tend to dry and cake up preventing contact.
A very simple cure is to liberally spray WD40 using the little tube into the key slot and wiggling the key left/right etc.
That action dissolves the dry lubricant and renews its efficiency to like new.

WD40 will not deter the switch life at all but simply renew it to like new.
