New Holland TC29D, 2001
My TC29D has two neutrals on it. The tractor will not start unless you are in one of them neutrals. My problem is the lower nuetral which is where you usually are in the shifting range seems to always need adjusting. My TC21D that I had was easy to adjust. The one on my TC29D is much more challenging. The dealer will adjust it and then three weeks later it is out of adjustment again. I can just move it up to the upper nuetral but sometime it won't go up there unless I rock the tractor back and forth. Can someone tell me how to adjust the lower one on this tractor? There does not seem to be any adjustment screws but there is a plate that has two bolts on it that looks like I could loosen and move some.

Murph, I'm curious, can you depress the clutch and start the engine? Both my International and my Kubota will always allow the engine to be started when the clutch is depressed. I know this does not answer your question, I'm just curious if NH is doing this on the Boomer tractors. Rat

I'm not Murph, but I can answer your question... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. The range lever must be in one of the two Neutral positions and the PTO levers disengaged to start the tractor. Pushing the clutch in isn't needed and if it's done, does not eliminate the need to do the other two.

Rat and Mike, on my B2710, all three things were needed; PTO off, range selector in one of the two neutral positions, and clutch pedal depressed. I never had to do any adjusting to any of them though.

No I don't need the clutch. I do need the PTO's to be disengaged. I have two nuetrals and I can start the tractor from the ground. I don't have to get on it. The lower nuetral is the one I use because it is between 1st and 2nd. That is the nuetral that for some reason gets out of wack all the time. If I make sure I shut the tractro off in that neutral it seems to start ok the next time. If not I just have to get it through 2nd gear and to the upper nuetral. My dealer has now adjusted it 3 times. It works great after he adjusts it for about two or three weeks and then doesn't again. On my TC21D there was only 1 nuetral and it was easy to adjust. This one I just can't figure out.

Attached is a picture with another one to follow. You will see two bolts that you can loosen and allow a circular type bar with teeth on it to move. My problem is, if you adjust the lower nuetral you will also adjust the upper nuetral.

You are on the right track, the adjustment is made by moving the dimpled bar. The switch mount may also be shifted slightly. Usually moving the bar is sufficient

I guess at worse I will mess up both sides. Playing around I will learn how to adjust on my own. I also know that alls I have to do is go push in on the switch and it will start in any gear or any place for that one time.

Ahh Experiencing I will go.

Thanks everyone

Had the same problem with my TC29D, but the dealer fixed last September when I had it in for some other issues. I have only put 30 hours on it since, but it is still working fine. Maybe if you let the dealer keep fixin it they'll eventually get it right ....

Practice, practice, practice

Good luck

I guess one would be right to make the dealer fix it. If you make him come and get it enough you would think they would fix right eventually. But you know it is tough to load that thinkg up or for them to come and get it. Yes they should be able to just come here and fix it in my garage, but I guess I do have some mechanical ability and now is the time for me to either fix it or mess it up. One or the other, I will learn.

Now that I was told it was just a matter of moving that plate I am not sure I can wreck it totally.
