I am having an issue with my CT445. It has been hard to start and I have no glow plug light when I turn the key either way. I assume the glowplugs are not heating thus causing the hard start which will become a no start as the weather gets cold. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Any number of things can cause hard start and/or no glowplug light. Blown fuse, defective relay and broken wire,in that order are the most common cause. From there burned out glowplugs, defective switch and a host of other issues come into play. How can you tell what or which? Wire diagram and multimeter will find every single one.

Thanks, I did Ck the fuse. I was hoping someone had a similar experience and answer. I will start the troubleshooting on Saturday. I welcome any ideas to speed the process. Thanks

It shouldn't take long if you can sort out which wires control what. When you checked fuse, did you confirm 12v in and out? Start at a couple of glow plugs to see if they are getting 12v when switch is in pre-heat position. Next is relay which is most likely where problem is. One of larger wires carry's 12v+ from battery to relay, find it with volt meter. Other larger wire carry's 12v to plugs when relay closes,if not and other has 12v,relay is bad. Smaller wires carry 12v+ from fuse to relay coil which closes contact between large wires. Another small wire run's from relay to light and a third ground's the coil. Try and trace the ground from relay to engine block or machine chasiss and make sure connection is clean and tight. With switch in preheat,if you connect and disconnect coil ground wire, you should be able to feel or hear relay close and open. If you hear/feel relay close but 12v doesn't go to plug wire, relay is bad.

Check the plug at the relay - second from left as viewed from the front located behind radiator overflow canister. Its shown on page PM-36 in your owners manual. You can also check power here. The three relays are the same so you can try swapping them. Also check the glow plug timer relay - last one the right. If it not working the glow plugs will not work either from what I remember hearing here. Over time the plugs can work loos or corrode. Hope this helps

Fairly easy to check glow plugs.

After cycling they will be warm to hot to the touch.
With a volt/ohm meter each plug* will measure low, like 1.5 or slightly more (each).

If all else fails and you wish to go the 'cheap' way, using a heavy amp switch, simply close the circuit (with switch) and become the human timer.
Like count off 7 or 10 seconds and try a start. If that fails add a few more seconds and re start.

*To measure EACH the wire must be disconnected from it as they are in parallel and otherwise you are measuring all three.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to track down the trouble. After about an hour of tracing wires and checking voltages i discovered that the control wire spade connector had slide down inside the plug to the glow plug relay and wasnt making contact to activate the relay. I used a small flat screw driver to force it back into place and that did the trick. I have preheat and it started on the second revolution of the engine!
