I understand that the thicker greases ooze less, but I need a non-messy grease gun. Just ruined shirt & shorts. Got the job done, but looked like a feeding baby when I was done. Please help with a good gun??

Welcome to TBN!
Depends on what you want to do and spend. My ideal setup after fighting grease guns since at least 2009 on both of my tractors and numerous other fittings is the following: I bought a DeWalt 20V battery operated grease gun and both Lock-N-Lube short and long fittings to attach to the hose end. The Lock-N-Lube fittings virtually guarantee the grease will not leak or blow out of the zerk the hose is attached to. I added one other item to allow reaching the difficult to attach to zerks. It is a Lincoln brand right angle fitting/adapter. One then takes a standard zerk fitting with 1/8" thread and threads the zerk into the angle adapter, and then puts that zerk onto the Lock-n-Lube adapter and one can then grease otherwise impossible to reach zerks.

Now I realize not everyone is going to want to spend the big bucks to buy the battery operated grease gun, so there are many alternatives to the 'Cadillac'. I also have lever pump guns and trigger pump guns too, all of which have served me well, but without the Lock-n-Lube attachments messy is the operative word.

Hope this helps, and I empathize with your plight. One other suggestion would be to dress to make mess and just take your time getting the greasing done. It's not a job to try to rush unless you want to wear most of the grease....
I will say, in closing, my description above has made the job almost enjoyable, instead of a dreaded chore. And the more 'enjoyable' the more often one may be inclined to do the greasing, which in the long run saves lots of $ on replaced damaged parts/bearing etc.:confused3::thumbsup:

Thanx for the info and the empathy, I just ordered the Milwaukee M18 whizzer and I have the Lock-N-Lube ready to install.

Now I need some good grease for pins. Got any suggestions?

Any brand name Moly grease available at TSC or elsewhere will do a good job IMHO. I've bought both the red tacky Lucas grease and the Marine grease, green color. Last time I bought grease I got a case of 10 tubes or similar. With the battery guns you can use bulk grease pails too, but may need extra hose fittings from your gun manufacturer. I like to change grease color periodically since then I can tell what I've hit with grease and when the old grease is being pushed out is easier to determine.
Good luck with the gun, let us know how it works for you....

Geeeze, have you considered washing those cloths, and saving them for the NEXT time you service your tractor?? (or work on something else)

I NEVER go out to work in my good cloths, that's just common sense... lol

Didn't say they were good. They're soaking as I type, also common sense (which isn't so common any more).

Hava better day.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

It won't really matter. All grease has the magical ability of leaping off of your tractor and onto any clothing you're wearing. Even if you're just 'walking by'.

Enjoy the site.

I think you will be quite happy with that Milwaukee grease gun! Put the grease gun in the fridge. :)

I have three grease guns I use. The DeWalt high priced 20V with its long lead and Lock'n Lube device, a long lever mechanical type with long hose and standard coupler, and a pistol grip mechanical model with long thin hose and standard coupler. All are messy with Mobil One synthetic grease due to the bleeding of oil. All are messy with Lucas Red and Tacky or Valvoline Crimson for same reason, but at much lesser rate. ALL are clean and neat with John Deere Multipurpose Polyurea. I still get grease on my cloths somehow. Heck, I can stay 50 feet away from diesel fuel and still have it on me. My solution is to wash my clothes inTide. Why? Because its too hot to wash them outTide...
