Looking
Just wondering if anyone has done any light digging with their tractor without ill effect?

I have a driveway a few hundred meters long with some slippage on the banks next to the road. It looks loose enough to me but being a newbie, I'm not sure if this is something a bucket could hande.

I'll be getting a 50hp with a 4in1 and the standard loader - AL43. Is this a big no-no or is some light "digging" acceptable?

My DK35SE HST does it ALL! If i have a job to do, we just do it. Think it through and do it. We move a lot of dirt and logs at my place. . .John

Even with my little CK20, I can dig and move most dirt. If it's too compacted or clay I could have to break up with box blade to move. You should have no issues.

Have Fun!!

:confused2: Why isn't this thread in the Kioti area?

While loaders aren't made for digging you can do if you're careful. Esp so if the earth isn't rocky.

Stay in low with high RPM and while going forward carefully shave 1" or less until you see runoff from the side of the bucket. That will give you almost 3/4 of a bucket. The job is made easier if you have a bucket leveler.

Once the bucket gets a good bit and 1" down or so you level off and continue forward.

It's crude but effective.

That's good to hear. Even with the smaller machines.

Looking forward to having a go!

In which case, would you get teeth for the bucket?

Teeth help with breaking up the dirt while digging. A tooth bar may help in keeping the front edge of the bucket from sagging when you dig. Although, the 4in1 may have a true cutting edge on it. The thing that really bothers me is watching someone slam into a pile thinking they are going to fill their bucket. Go at it in low, about half throttle, and when you get into the pile a little, lift the bucket some and then curl the bucket, with a little practice you will get a full bucket.

So, you'd approach face on, as opposed to driving down the road with only one side of the bucket scraping/digging?

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. But most usually, yes, head on. Wether you drive down the road trying to scrape up material, or if your trying to just shore up the sides of the road, head on is easier on the machine.

Not sure what this has to do with owning and operating a Kubota :confused2:
