I'm not familiar with tractors. I recently bought 5 acres, I am looking for something that is the best bang for the buck but still is a good poduct. My neighbor just bought 28hp with fel, finish mower deck, boxblade and trailer to load it up on for $12,700 out the door. I believe the manufacturer is work track or something similar, a blue tractor. Anyway he just bought his so I know nothing about the reliability of this products. All my other neighbors say John Deere or New Holland is a good tractor. I think 28hp John Deere with a finish mower is 17,000 plus tax without other attatchments. Anyone have any pros and cons for different brands / price ranges
Thanks for your response.

Re: no clue

You should visit all local dealers and talk to them and get yourself more familiar with tractors in general. Reading up on Tractorbynet is also a great tool. You need to know what direction to head in and your local tractor dealers should be able to point you in the right direction. Don't even pay attention to brands right now... just look around and soak up some info. Get a feel for what you need and want. Once you decide how much tractor you need... then start brand shopping and comparing.

In my opinion... Kubota offers the best bang for the buck. They are great tractors and generally price out lower than the other big names. But you might not even have a local Kubota dealer. Deere, New Holland, Mahindra, Kioti, Massey Ferguson, Case, and some other make great machines and all deserve looking into. It sounds like your neighbor bought a Chinese tractor. I don't want to knock them... but they are normally more prone to breakdowns than the larger named tractors.

Hope this helps some.

Re: no clue

I was looking at the ck20 on Kioti's website a few days ago and they have a special on that one, $9995 with a front end loader. It is a good sized, heavy tractor for it's hp.

One thing people on TBN will need to know in order to give suggestions is what you plan on using the tractor for. I'm guessing with 5 acres that mowing is one job.

Welcome to TBN :)! Please give us some additional information on your property and intended uses for the tractor. We at TBN are more than happy to help you spend your hard earned money as well as give you the reasons to "justify" your purchases to your "comptroller" :D! Jay

Actually, the tractor for $9995 is the LB1914 which is still a good sized 20hp tractor, but it doesn't have the newer design and ergonomics of the CK20.
That is quite a deal for a brand new tractor with FEL with a 8F/8R shuttle tranny and 4 year parts and labor warranty. Figure another $2000 for a trailer (new).

EDIT: That was my 300th post. :)

Re: no clue

Definitely test drive them all. Do lots of research before you buy. All are good. But, only one will be "best" for you.

Unless you are very mechanically inclined and have the time, I would stay away from the Chinese tractors. Of course, if you have a good dealer selling them close by, they may be just fine because the dealer will have to bear the burdens while under warranty. From what I 've read, most problems are due to sloppy assembly and a good dealer can/will eliminate these types of problems early on. And the Resale value of a Chinese ??????

Re: no clue

Thanks for your quick responses,
My long haul plans of usage for the tractor is mowing and spreading dirt/gravel, stuff like that. My short term uses include knocking down small stumps and moving trees into pile after i cut them. I would love to have a machine that I could intergrate different types of attatchments with easily.
Does anyone know a good website to compare different tractors prices and specs.

Re: no clue

Rural Living magazine had a side by side comparison of several CUTS and SCUTS out a few months ago. A few weeks ago I looked it up on their website, so try a search for that. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark it. But it listed engines, drivetrains, transmissions, loader lift capacities and MSRPs.

Re: no clue

Some of the other considerations will be what type of land will you be working on? Hills may require a little more size or horsepower than if you have flat land. Do you live in an area that gets a lot of snow? I think you see where I am going. The size of stumps you plan on removing could have an impact on the size of tractor, but if they are large stumps, you could consider hiring someone or renting a backhoe for much cheaper than buying one. There are other methods besides digging to consider. Putting some info on your profile may help you find someone else on here from your area that can give you more specifics. Certainly don't be afraid to ask here...

Re: no clue

If I could buy a brand new tractor I would get a John Deere.
