Hi,

Does anyone have a service manual that shows the exploded view of the drive system for the front wheels?

I am having an issue that no matter what position I put the selector lever in, the 4WD will not engage.

Does anyone know if the driveshaft is keyed going into the front axle?

Any help would be appreciated

First is to check the 4-wd linkage. Make sure the linkage is in tact and moves the rocker shaft into the Front Drive Case. There is a pin between the shift lever and the shifter shaft. Could be that the pin is sheared. Easy fix there.

Next, determine whether the dront drive shaft spins when engaged. The front drive shaft has spline couplings with spring pins. Remove the 2 bolts holding the shaft cover and slide the shaft cover out of the way. You need to have the tractor safely on jack stands. Engage the 4-wd and check if the front propeller shaft is spinning. If not, the problem is with the shifter in the front drive case. If it spins, either the pinion shaft at the ftont axle or the differential case is probably the problem.

Check the linkage pin first, go from there.

Hi,

The pin for the shift lever is in place and intact. As a next step I removed the bolts from the shaft cover at the transmission and pulled the cover back to reveal the shaft. I then moved the lever to the 4WD position and then turned the front wheels. The shaft did not turn.

As a next step I was going to drop the drive shaft and look to see if there is damage at either end.

Does the shaft push forward into the front axle to engage the front wheels?

Do you have another suggestion?
