First thing to say is this is a custom application and I am hitting a brick wall. Let me start with what I have.

I have a 1966 Massey Ferguson 304 Industrial tractor with a 220 backhoe attached to the rear. Several years ago, the end cap on the control valves cracked and I couldn't find a replacement. So went another route and found these valves:

3 SPOOL 24 GPM NIMCO OC W/PWR BYD VALVE NO HANDLES

I hooked them up as indicated by the instructions, but the instructions are just a picture. Please look at the instructions on the website to see what I am referring to. Yes, all there is was a picture.

So, I have 2 of these valves and hooking them up in a series circuit with the power thru from the first valve powering the second valve. The second valve power thru is running back to the tank. The 2 Return to tank ports are also running back to the tank. Everything is hooked up as it should be but.....

I have no hydraulic functions on the second valve. Tried several scenarios with different configurations and there still is either no functions on the second valve, or so much back pressure the tractor wont start.

After looking at the valves and diagram, I realized I have never seen a "return to tank" port on the top of the end cap and "Power thru" on the bottom. Question is, has anyone ever hooked up one of these Nimco's (or similar) and is their diagram labeled wrong?

I'm going to try reversing them today, but would love some input before that.

Thanks for any replies!

I don't have a picture of it but I'll describe it the best I can. I'll try to do a diagram here on the message also.

The 2 valves are sitting side-by side. The right valve input port comes from the hyd. pump. There are 3 control valves and then the end cap.
The end cap has 2 ports on it. The return to tank port and the power thru port.
The power thru port (bottom) is hooked directly to the left valve assembly in the input port. The return to tank port (Top) is connected to the left assembly return to tank port.

The valve on the left has the input port hooked directly from the right power thru port (bottom). The end cap has the same exit ports.

The Power thru port (bottom) on the left assembly goes directly back to the tank on it's own circuit.
Both the "return to tank" port (Top) are hooked together and run to the tank as a paralleled circuit.

I'll try that diagram now:
/-------------------------------------------\----------------------Back to tank
\ Return to tank OoooO Input \ Return to tank OoooO Input ----------from Pump
Back to tank-----Power Thru Oooo \ Power thru Oooo

The big O's are the input and output ports
The small o's are the control ports
The / & \ marks are the connections to the corresponding ports in that line in the direction the are hooked up in.
The ------ are the line/hose routing.

But my question is, I've never seen a control valve with the return to tank "in-line" with the spools. That is usually the power thru, but that is not what their instructions say. Are their instructions wrong or am I hooking these up wrong?

It automatically shifted the bottom line on the diagram. If you move that bottom line to the left about 10 spots, everything will line up.

It sounds like you have it hooked up correctly...I'll think it about it more.

Well, got the old girl upgrade done and working properly. My suspicion was correct.
If you look at the instructions for the valves, the exhaust ports are "return to tank" as the top port and "Power Beyond" as the bottom port. That is incorrect. They are exactly the opposite.
I swapped them around and Walla, everything started working.
Thanks for the help Kenny!

Wow, good job!
Glad you got it working...very frustration that the info provided to you was wrong. Might want to send SC a not about it.

@dajain.. If you see this, could you tell me if you found rubber boots that fit and where? Thanks..

BTW, it looks like they fixed the PB and Tank labeling..
