Began to see turkeys on my place about 4 years ago. Started hunting them 3 years ago. Got skunked every year with a couple of very close (should have, could have) calls. Learned LOTS. Conducted a prescribed burn earlier this spring. Been trying to get this big boy since April 15th. FINALLY, everything came together this morning. Almost slept in. Got there late. Heard him gobbling when I stepped out of the truck. Tried to work him from my first location but he sounded like he was headed the other direction. Moved 100 yds closer and he locked in on me. For once, I played the cards just right. Last 2 gobbles I could hear the vibration. Shot him at 30 yds with 3" heavy shot. Me, John Moses Browning, and Tom turkey. Gave thanks to GOD for making it possible. Gonna get him mounted as he represents the first of what will hopefully become an annual event, and one that I can share with my kids. Happy Mother's Day !!!!!!

Nice bird, Mike! We have lots of them, and I'm sure some of the neighbors hunt them, but I just love seeing the toms strut around each spring. They are really magnificent. Are you gonna get that one mounted (tail/beard)?

Congratulations. Time spent in the woods hunting, is definitely one of Life's pleasures. I have a Browning A-5 also. I bought it in 1967 while I was in school. I earned the money caddying on the golf course. In the early years of our Nation, Benjamin Franklin wanted to have the Wild Turkey as the National bird instead of the Bald Eagle. Here's wishing you continued success in the field.

Pharmvet big congrats/way to go !
Enjoyed short story and pic. I"am assuming since your scatter gun is not camo'ed the rest of you was including maybe face net and or camo face paint.
Also what call diaphram or box cause don't see the string and pull type on your nice shotgun. Just wondered ?

Nice bird. I wish we had them in numbers here. I've seen one turkey on our farm for years, just don't know where they are.

Nice bird! Getting skunked more times than not is what makes turkey hunting a challenge and makes the bird you got special. Happy hunting.

Great job!! Turkey hunting is my favorite. I managed to slam 3 of them this year (2 for me and called 1 in for my friend, his first bird).

It's not about the killing though. There's just something about slipping into the woods pre-dawn to work on bagging a turkey.
