Began to see turkeys on my place about 4 years ago. Started hunting them 3 years ago. Got skunked every year with a couple of very close (should have, could have) calls. Learned LOTS. Conducted a prescribed burn earlier this spring. Been trying to get this big boy since April 15th. FINALLY, everything came together this morning. Almost slept in. Got there late. Heard him gobbling when I stepped out of the truck. Tried to work him from my first location but he sounded like he was headed the other direction. Moved 100 yds closer and he locked in on me. For once, I played the cards just right. Last 2 gobbles I could hear the vibration. Shot him at 30 yds with 3" heavy shot. Me, John Moses Browning, and Tom turkey. Gave thanks to GOD for making it possible. Gonna get him mounted as he represents the first of what will hopefully become an annual event, and one that I can share with my kids. Happy Mother's Day !!!!!!
