Hello folks although I have been a member for a little while this is my first post here! Here is my problem, there is a squealing noise on/off coming from under the hood while its running, I thinks it the alternator, so is it possible and would someone already have the part number/vendor for replacement bearings? Any in put would be great!

Lloyd, you need to be sure it's the alternator. Have you loosened the belt and turned the pulley by hand to see if it turns smooth? Does your alternator light illuminate? Have you checked the water pump? There are many things that can squeal when the engine is running, even sitting still. The HST charge pump can squeal and so can a loose hydraulic line that is touching metal. It sounds just like a bearing going out, but it's just the line vibrating against metal. If you do find the problem is the alternator, then consider that there are lots of vendors out there selling alternators and rebuilt alternators for your tractor. Your New Holland part number is 185046320. I did a quick search and found this one sold through Sears at a little over $83. Do you really want to mess with the bearings if you can replace the alternator for $83? I don't think New Holland sells the bearings, so you'd have to know the sizes and then match them at a bearing shop. All that just sounds a little much when the whole alternator is very reasonable. Just be sure it is the alternator before replacing it.

Thanks Jinman, I had a busy week, and now I'm battling poison ivy, maybe by Wed or Thurs I can get into it a little more. Its not a constant noise, more like when you squeeze your lips together and suck in to get a horse to go. Like I said tho later this week, if I can stop itching I'll look into it. Thanks again for the info.

It's not just a dirty hydraulic filter... when mine is dirty, using the bucket makes it squeal a bit, and my seat springs make an awful sound when I shift around. -not making light of it, but things to consider. Fan/water pump used to make that bird sound on my previous car when the bearings were getting ready to give out.

Jiman I actually used one and couldn't find it! But I just got off the phone with the previous owner AND THE MYSTERY NOISE IS SOLVED!!!!!! Its the hydro pump on the left side, where I was hearing it, but I never listened to the pump! Problem solved! Thank you so much for your inputs, and thanks Jamie for the phone call!

All is well- **** all is awesome I got a TC40DA!

. . .AND THE MYSTERY NOISE IS SOLVED!!!!!! Its the hydro pump on the left side, where I was hearing it. . .

You must be referring to the noise often reported in the ball valve above the HST filter. It's often reported as a clicking or chirping sound. Your last description of a sound like urging a horse to go was very revealing. Also, that's the only hydraulic "pump" related item on the left side of the tractor. The main pump is on the right side and so is the power steering pump. Both the HST transmission and charge pump are in the centerline of the tractor and inside the transmission case.
