Hi. I am about to buy a NH tc40d with 16la and 758c. I spent alot of time on a mid seventies Case 580c backhoe, and I haven't really tested the tc40d to the point where I could compare the two. Not that I expect it to be just like the Case 580c, but does anyone know how these two would stack up against each other for loading and trench digging (like loading pickup trucks with manure, loading 5 yard dump trucks, digging drainfield lines, lift height, etc.)? Thanks.

As I'm sure you know the Case is a full size TLB where as the TC40 is a mid size compact. The backhoe on the Case would have greater reach and a lot more strength (and not require you to get off one seat and on to another to operate). The 758 (which I had on my 2120 for about 15 years before I sold it) is a fine small hoe but no match for the Case. It digs well, but won't go as deep and it will take quite a bit more time. It trenches fine just takes time.
As far as loader, same issue. bucket will hold less, lift less and not go as high. Assuming that you can reach over side of the 5 yard truck OK, it will just take longer to load. The TC40 will serve you well in its own right, just don't expect it to be a construction TLB.

Yup,I guess within reason the CUT will do ok. Just take longer, and not have as much power. Not sure about the 5 ton dump loading though. Might need a ramp of some sort.

Yup, which the TC40 could build for you /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think your TC40 will take about four times as long whether working the backhoe or the loader. I've had experience working side-by-side with a 580C and he "ran circles" around me. Also, a 580C will have the power to do some jobs you will never get done with the compact's backhoe.

The lift maximum lift height on your FEL is 102". You won't be able to dump any higher than 8', so measure your dump truck to see if you'll have to constantly build a ramp to dump in the middle of the bed. You might have to dump on the sides and then curl the bucket to push material toward the middle. Considering the bed height of a 5 yd dump is probably 7' or less (6-1/2' maybe) I think you will be okay, but even heaped up your bucket will hold just slightly less than 1/2 yard. If your material is wet or very heavy, you won't be able to lift a full bucket to maximum height.

These are just things you have to consider with a CUT. They can do lots of jobs, but they are NOT construction grade TLBs. There is a big difference.

For working around your horse stalls, the TC40 will be just what you need. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ...maybe even a little big. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
