I guess my personal opinion is which one do you like the best. Which one fits your butt the best. Which one has the dealer you like the best and if your thinking of selling which one do you think will have the highest resale? All questions only you can answer. Both are good tractors but I personally think the New Holland would have a better resale if and only if you think you will sell it anytime in the near future.

One thing I would also look at is I believe the New Holland will have the loader control valve on the fender instead of up on the loader arms. It is reaching versus just resting your hand on the control valve. I like the New Holland better. Not a big deal but something to think about.

Year of tractors doesn't matter at all. New Holland is a smoother operating tractor. Also at least in Conn & Mass resale value of Mahindra's is much much less than New Hollands. An another thought there arfe many more New Holland dealers and I know they can get part for many years. I don't know about Mahindra parts availability in long run. I'm a blue guy so my vote is for the TC. Try out the loader speed betwen the two. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My recommendation would be:

1. Lay out the specs side-by-side and compare them.
2. Check the number of factory add-on features available for both tractors and 3rd party model specific add-ons.
3. Go try both tractors and compare operation and ergonomics.
4. Compare dealers, distance for service, reputation, level of stock.
5. Repeat 1-4 above until you are sure you can live with your decision.
6. Go for it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

jinman . . . the simple logic of your decision making tree is great. I think we often over complicate things in our own minds!

I would add one thing to your STEP 1 and that is to make sure the specs you compare are legitimate comparisions. Some tractor brands measure 3pt capacity at the ball ends, while others measure them 12" behind the ball ends and still some who are really really honest about capacity measure them as far back as 24" behind the ball ends. The farther back the lower the lift capacity should be, but you can't compare numbers measured at the ball ends to numbers measured 12" or 24" behind them and visa-versa. Similar funny comparisons apply to Front End Loader capacity, some measure lift capacity at the ground, some at the top, some in multiple places, some with the bucket removed and measure the capacity at the lower bucket links. When comparing, make sure that you are comparing the SAME things.

AND, as a further point, when looking at lift capacity on the 3pt, I would NOT let that be the deciding factor on a purchase becuase most tractors have the ability to lift so much weight on their hitch that even with front counter weights the front of the tractor will be lifted off the ground . . . so excess capacity is simply theoretical lift not actual lift capacity!!!

Skippy,

For what it is worth -- I was able to get a 4WD TC40, 2004 model for 15,500, NH 16LA FEL was another 3,800.

I'm in west Tennessee.

I guess I'm wondering why you are paying the same for last year's model tractor as I paid just last week for this year's model.

or

15400 cash

then I went and looked at deere /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I still don't understand the premium they get for these machines. used 4610 with 200+- hrs w/loader 23500...I know its 44 hp but still...what do ya think?

$300 more for the 04 NH TC40 only reflects a 2% increase. Not bad right now.

Not a bad price. I purchased a TC40 in July of 2003 for close to the price of your 2004. I am very pleased with this tractor. I looked at the 2004 TC,s at dealer this week did thy change headlights to a 2 stage unit? Looks like high and low beam. Didn't have time to walk over and look or talk to rep.
