Tractor
NH TC35D
First I'd like to say hi.

I had this same problem last year. My clutch is bearly engaging. It barely moves the tractor. Last year I called a fella (no longer in business) and he adjusted the clutch and it worked fine. I was the proud reciepient of 31 inches of snow 2 days a go lol. I need to get this tractor going. I messed with the lingage a little but did nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind NJ is buried right now and to get any parts may be tuff. I am good with a wrench and can fix anything I can understand.

Thanx Steve

Steve, welcome to TBN. You've come to the right place for help. I hope I can be of a little assistance.

You said in your title that your tractor was a TC35D. The "D" means "Deluxe" and an HST transmission. That model tractor does NOT have a clutch, so I'm guessing that your tractor is a TC35, TC35A, or TC35S. It's only importantant because you need to make sure you specify the correct model when searching for help or giving details to your dealer for ordering parts. Just leave off the "D" if you are talking about a gear tractor with shuttle shift and you'll be good to go.

I'm including the instructions for adjusting the clutch from the Repair Manual. If you follow these instructions, you can adjust your clutch if that's all that is wrong with it. It might be a gummed up a bit and stiff due to cold weather. If there is any way you can get your tractor into a warm garage or warmed up well before adjusting, it would be good. I'm not a clutch expert, but it sounds to me like your clutch may be slipping and have excessive wear. Hopefully you can get enough adjustment to get you going.

Thank you jinman. That was the linkage I was fooling with. I can now try to get it set right and see what happens. Have to wait for daylight.

Did you buy it new or used? If used, that means the cowling was replaced with a D-model hood maybe after some damage. If new, the damage could have occurred at the dealer and been replaced with a hood that had a D-model decal. I'm sure you don't have a rubber mat on your operator platform, nor a swivel seat, nor a temperature gage in your instruments (yours should have an idiot light). Your steering wheel is also not a tilt steering wheel. These are all Deluxe model features.

I bought this farm in Jan. and all the equipment including the tractor came with it. I dont even have a manual for it. The tractor only has 118hrs on it. But it definetly is not the delux. It has none of the things you mentioned.

The hood decal is not important really. What is important is that you know it's a TC40S and that number will ensure you get the right parts when ordering and also is what you need to get the correct Operator's Manual. Those are available on eBay fairly often and also can be ordered from New Holland. They aren't that expensive and can come in very handy. There is a separate manual for the TC35-TC40-TC45 and the TC35D-TC40D-TC45D. Now you know which one to buy.;):D

Well I adjusted the linkage to the specs on the sheet and still no clutch.

My only option now is to spend the money to find someone to come here (dont have a trailer) and fix it. I have looked at everything and cant see anything wrong. I have no idea how to check the fluid level. Hope it isnt somthing stupid like that.

Well, if the Range lever isn't stuck in Neutral, I don't see how it could be anything but the clutch. I believe your Shuttle lever only has Forward and Reverse without a Neutral position. Fluid levels also wouldn't cause problems like this. To check that your tractor's Range is not stuck in Neutral, try to start the engine with the lever in low range. If the tractor won't start, then the transmission is telling the neutral sensor that it is out of neutral and that is proper. To also check all functions, look at your PTO stub and check that it rotates when you move the PTO lever to ON. The PTO is independent of your clutch on your tractor since it is driven by a coaxial shaft and does not rely on power coming from the clutch.

Normally if a clutch is slipping, you will have some effort by the tractor to move in the very lowest range, but no strange noises. If there are throughout bearing problems or pressure plate problems, those are often accompanied by strange noises. I guess it is possible that moisture has built up in your clutch area and frozen to cause the pressure plate to stay released. If you could move your tractor to a warm area for a few hours, that might tell you if your problem is ice.

It's sure a bummer to have these problems at this time of year or anytime of the year. Good luck with getting this fixed. Splitting the tractor is costly, but often necessary. I'm sorry the clutch adjustment didn't do it for you.:(

If you mean the forward and reverse lever to the left of the steering wheel it does have nuetrel. I will try the other things you suggested and report back.

Thanks very much Jim
