NH tc-35a gear shifter broke.

Does anyone have any experience with the shifter that puts the tractor into 1-4th gear located next to the steering wheel? The lever has come lose from where it secures to the tractor. I'm not sure what part needs to be replaced. Not sure exactly how its supposed to be now that it came apart.
The pictures show how I got the lever back together so I can get the tractor in gear but, the square block that goes into that opening keeps coming out. Does anyone know if this is how its supposed to connect. It looks like maybe the block is supposed to go into the opening a bit farther. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I'm not exactly sure how that mechanism works, but my repair manual shows it in exactly the position as your last photo. What the repair manual says about adjustment is that the bracket that attaches to your steering column is supposed to be adjusted up/down "to give equal motion between neutral and the up and down gear postions." The two bolts that hold the bracket to the steering column are supposed to be slotted so the bracket can slide up and down before being tightened down in the correct position.

This thread should probably have been put in the NH owning/operating forum for the broadest number of views and possible help since it is a specific NH question. I just happened to see it. Hopefully someone with more actual knowledge than I will see and be able to give you a definitive answer.

I ordered my manual directly from New Holland shortly after I bought my tractor. Any dealer should be able to get you the manual on CD. I'm not sure if they are even selling printed manuals anymore. The CD is much cheaper as I recall. My paper manual and illustrated parts catalog were over $300 total. You also might check on ebay. Sometimes you see manuals for sale there.
