Nh br 740 crop cutter

I am looking for baler and found really good deal on a br 740 silage special net wrap crop cutter. But really don't need the crop cutter option. Does it have to be engaged when in use or can you just leave the knifes disengaged ? I looked up hp requirements and it calls for 100 hp I only have 86 hp at Pto tractor. Thanks in advance for the help and info.

Knives can be retracted and 86 HP will run it that way.

Any common problems with the crop cutter option you know of Rick b. Don't know much about that option.
