NH 3010s clutch problems

After sitting inside for several months I have to manually release the clutch to engage it. When I depress it it stays down and I have to pull it back manually. Any suggestions as to the problem. The tractor only has 400 hours on it as the previous owner became disabled. Thanks, Bob Smits

Maybe some rust on the trans nose where the throw out bearing slides. If it's that, it should resolve after some time. Any chance of getting a snake light into the housing, maybe alongside where the clutch arm enters the bell housing?

Jim, thanks for the suggestion. My local service department has never seen this before. I agree it sounds like something with the throw out bearing. When engaged I do not detect any slippage. Bob

My Ford did this about ten years ago. It was just a spring under the floor that had broken (or may have contacted a big rock). Put a new spring on and it's been fine ever since. Took all of 5 minutes to fix.

It is the spring return. That is the only think pulls the pedal back. Does not appear you have issue with engagement and slippage. Disk and throwout bearing work like they should. Might use a bungee cord for the time being to avoid riding the clutch causing damage to pressure plate fingers or release bearing.

BTW, 400 hours? If it is like my old Ford the hour meter zeros out after 999. We hear about these "low hour" Shibauras all the time. Great machines that beg you to work the heck out of them. Call me a skeptic.
