I checked with all of the dealers in southern NV & southern UT... no gots!

If I were to try to "hotwire" this thing.... how would I do it. The ignition switch has to have... glow plug... run position... start.... off. Any idea of the colors of the wires and the procedure?

I theorize that I need to cross the wires on the run position and tie them together... then touch the wires on the start position until it turns over... then leave them seperated.

...or do you think I should hammer a screw driver into the key slot... and turn. Its a 400 mile drive... I have to move it tomorrow morning... then drive home. I am trying to put a plan together before I head out and lose the internet.

Even bad advice would be appreciate at this point.

Thanks

Wow, tractor dealers that dont have any keys. Thats crazy.

Bear in mind here that im not a tractor hot wiring expert, but assuming you can get to the ignition switch wires without takeing half of the tractor apart.

1 jumper the wire from the switch for the run position (wiring diagram?)
2 make absolutely sure the tractor is in neutral and the brake is set
3 repeat step 2
4 get a screwdirver and jump the starter, or battery cables would be a good choice if reach is a problem

One other option is to call other dealers and maybe have one next day air.

Good luck

My advice would be same as most others,...the keys are much the same for all this stuff,... my little Roper lawn mower (1980's) fits a Link Belt Excavator like it was made for it. So I would say get one from most any dealer, (or from a friend) and if not then try your screw driver, but don't hammer it in, a nail file or something gentle if played with a bit will turn.

Picking a lock is a matter of raking across the upper tumblers while putting just a tad of turn pressure on the lock, once they are all held firmly up, it will turn. You need two pieces,...one to hold side pressure on the lock, trying to turn while the other rakes the top tumblers from inside out. Patience my friend. But I would get any key to try first.

Good luck,

Can't tell from your post where you live or what kind of tractor you have.

Many tractors use the same key in a lot of models. Would a dealer loan you a key to move the tractor? How about a rental yard? Do any neighbors have the same brand of tractor? Can a locksmith make one for you?

If your tractor is like mine--in that it does not have an electrical solenoid fuel cut off, then it will run just fine without the key--You will need it for charging the battery and convenience. However, just set the throttle to about half and jumper the starter solenoid. There are probably 3 connections on the starter solenoid--2 large and 1 small. use a short piece of wire or a screwdriver to jumper between the big connection from the battery and the small connection. It should crank with that and on a diesel if it gets fuel it should run. I have done this many times for a short need.

i can start mine by wiggling a small to medum flat head screw driver into the key slot. Giggle and turn is all it takes on mine.

The med size flat head on my leatherman is the exact size needed.

is baiscly what mine looks like. there really arnt any "pins" like a tradtional house/car key

Just so I know....If I laugh hard instead of Giggle as I turn will it still work ? LOL
sorry I could not stop myself...:)

Any chance you left the key in the ignition so that you wouldn't forget it next time you came up to use it?

farm er- I find it hard to beleive that you talkedd to dealers and they say they cant help. most tractors have same key like kubota to kubota. If they cant help you then you probably dont even own one. You didnt state what do you have and what happened to original keys. I sincerely hope you are not one of those who plan to steal tractors or does it for a living.

Don't know about other tractor brands, but Montana's all have different keys. When we went to test drive the tractor we eventually bought, the dealer had these big wire loops with a about 30 keys on it in pairs. Each tractor on the lot had two keys and since each key has an ignition switch dust cover that is about an inch in diameter it makes the keys take up a lot of space. He went through three different loops before he found the keys that would start the tractor.
