Hello all!

Nice informative site. I am the proud owner of a TC33D hst with supersteer that I bought new in 1999. I have now learned to use the machine and have been looking at upgrading to TC 45.

I am hoping some readers can help me figure out what my TC33D is worth at 1050 hrs with a NH 7308 loader 68" bucket and a 757C backhoe with 12" and 24" buckets. Turf tires New 4ply in front.
Backhoe has about 300hrs.
This was my first tractor so I have little or no experience in value but I am getting the feeling that the dealer is quoting me way higher than prices for the TC45 that I've seen here and he's also offering me ONLY 55% of what I paid on my TC33D which is in excellent condition at under 1100 hrs in 5 yrs and that seems like excessively low value. There is simply no way that I have used up 45% of the machine's usefull life.

Can anyone give a rough idea of what it should be worth -realistically so I am better prepared to haggle with the dealer.

Thanks a Bunch

Try MachineFinder or MachineryLink.com to get an idea of prices.
On MachineryLink, lower left corner of the page, there's a link for used tractor prices.

Eebbee, the only way you will get the proper value for your tractor is to sell it yourself. That dealer is in business for himself and he is only going to offer you wholesale for your tractor while selling you a new one at retail.

I'd look at the original price you paid for your tractor and then take off about $3,000 for the tractor and $1000 for the backhoe. Deduct another 15% from the original price of the other attachments you want to sell. Put an add in the paper, on ebay, and/or here in the TBN classifieds.

Because the dealer has low interest provided by NH, you can't compete with him on that footing, but when someone comes to buy your tractor, you can offer them an additional discount depending on what their bank wants to charge for interest. For example, if their bank wants 8.9%, you could give them an additional 5% off as a rebate to simulate NH's low rates. That will level the financing advantage dealers have. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'd give it a try, because taking 50% off on trade-in and then paying a profit for the new tractor is really taking a "beating" in my opinion. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thank you RoyJackson I now got confirmed that my dealer was trying to pull a fast one on me and he seems to be going at it from both sides.
I live in Canada and paid the equivalent of $30,000 USD in 1999. The dealer is offering me $17,000 USD for my TC33D 4W supersteer '99 with the loader and backhoe on, and asking me $38,200 USD for a TC45 4W 12x12 with loader and backhoe. He seems to be about 10 grands too high on the new one and almost 10 grands too low on my trade in.
The sales guy did mention that he was building a house...he just did not specify that I was paying for it...

I saw a post here where a guy said he traded up and ended up paying $2 per hour of usage...Is there a rule of thumb for tractor depreciation? I worked out what the dealer offers me against my hours to $12.66 per hour which seems high against $2. I only got about 200 hrs a year.

What about depreciation on implements like loader and backhoe?

Thanks for your input...
Much appreciated.

Thanks for your input JinMan.
Your numbers are a lot closer to what I was thinking...Am I wrong to think that this TC33D is an ALMOST new tractor at 1000 hrs in 5 years ?

There is no way that the dealer will get me on both fronts. He might not even get me at all, as I might end up selling myself and driving to the US to buy the new one. I am about 1 hr away from the border...and import export is my business (just not tractors).
I don't have anything against people making a living but this guy is being too greedy for my taste.
thanks

The only thing you have going against you is the new 33Ds have the 15LA loader with SuperSteer and that is an improved loader over the 7308. With SS, loader, and backhoe, you have a primo setup for lots of folks. Just try to find a comparable tractor for sale (I doubt you will.) and that will tell you how rare used tractors of the quality of yours are. Don't price it too low. If the first person who sees it buys it, you'll always wonder if you shouldn't have priced it a little higher. Remember, you can always come down in price, but rarely will you ever be able to raise it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You may want to refer to the following post to get a better understanding of costs.

TC45DA Cost Discussion

Having looked at these in Canada also, I can confirm that Canadian prices are significantly higher than the US.

Thanks for the input guys! This brought out an interesting exchange with the dealer. He claims that he pays more wholesale than you guys do retail and that he called a US dealer whom told him $28795 for a TC45D with loader and backhoe is impossible (!?). However the information I found seems to support more what is said on this forum than what the dealer says.

We are really getting the shaft here in Canada! The same model listed in the TC45 Cost discussion at $28795 USD (33,923CAD) my dealer quotes me at $45,000 CAD ($38,197 USD) -using exchange rate from 12/1/04.

I first thought that NH were still working on older exchange rates but even at higher US value of 1.32Cad to 1 US there is still a $7,000 surcharge in Canada. Now the xchange rate is around 1.17 which makes for a whooping 25% ($9500 US) surcharge.

He is also depreciating my TC33D as a whole at $15 per hour.
Which basically means that if I had 2500 hours I'd have to pay him in order to take my TC33D.
Now I checked and the Canada Customs tarriff seems to be at zero % -no duty- which means only our GST to pay upon entry, which I 'd have to pay retail as well...

It seems that the way for Canadians to buy would be to take a drive South and purchase in the USA and that is probably what I will do when I upgrade which is not going to be now. At your prices the contract would be signed already.

My dealer claims that they are assembled differently for Canada which is b.s. because he let it slip that he wanted to offer my TC33 to a US client. Even if they were asssembled differently would there be a $10,000 difference on a $30Gs tractor? I highly doubt it...transportation costs, no way either!
Is there anything I am missing or we are just getting the shaft up North?
