Massey GC1715, ToroTitan HD ZT
Hello,

I have started my search to buy a SCUT.

My primary needs are; rotary mower for 2 acres, front end snow blower for a residential driveway, and some light loader work.

I have looked at Massey Ferguson GC1705, GC 1715, Kubota BX2380, BX2680, John Deere 1025R, New Holland Workmaster 25S.

The front-runner for me so far is the GC1715. I like the 1715 over the 1705 because of the extra HP of the engine and PTO. I realize it's not much.

I like the Kubota BX series but the BX2380 is more expensive than the 1715 and really I think I would have to go even more expensive to the BX2680 to get the the 1715's HP. Kubota adds a few nice things such as the tilt steering wheel and folding ROPS and a few things with their quick connect. I liked both dealers and reasonable distance. Overall with price and performance factors, I like the GC1715.

The John Deere 1025 R was nice but quite a bit more expensive than the rest. The New Holland 25S also nice, but the dealer did not seem very familiar with the product, and I prefer the Massey anyway.

I was wondering if any owners of GC1715's or 1705's are happy with their decision, have had any warranty issues, and if so how are they handled?

Thanks.

PS - The Ford 641 is my father's and is 300 miles away.

If you are in the vicinity of an RK store, take a look at RK Tractors. Just for comparison, the RK website provides helpful pricing for tractor, attachment, implement. Everything in plain view, No "build and price" exercises. All prices are bottom line, no LIST prices, trying to anticipate discounts.

As you investigate MF and others, you would have a base line as to what is available in the market with an 8 year warranty.

Thank you for the information. I had not heard of that brand. I looked it up and there are no stores near Western Wisconsin. I should have put that in my profile.

You can also look at the LS tractors, if you have a dealer in the vicinity. LS makes the NH workmaster 25s. It is the MT125. Should be comparible in price to the MF, if not a bit less.

Miller Tractor & Sales - Spencer, WI.
Coon Valley Dairy Supply - near Lacrosse, WI
Synergy Cooperative - Ridgeland, WI <-- best chance of decent place to get LS from that will be in business down the road.

Massey dealers all over - I think you're better leaning that way.

I did look at the New Holland 25s. It is a very nice tractor, but I preferred the Massey.

There are many reasons for certain brand popularity or choice. I found that several brands I looked at originally were built too heavy or too bulky. A sub-compact tractor needs to strong - but it doesn't need to be "bulky". Kubota BX units are certainly sleek in styling and fit - but I personally liked the Massey combination over the BX series - because I wanted strength to lift in the fel category - but I also wanted tight turning. In football - there are small speedster running backs - there are quick but strong running backs - and there are fullbacks that aren't considered fleet-a-foot but they can hit hard and block.

Several tractors I considered fit the "fullback" category. A couple more - fit the speedster running back set. The Yanmar SC2400 (no longer produced), the Massey GC 1715, and the BX 2670 seemed to be built and operated like the middle (quick but strong running back) - especially true for fel strength, seating/controls, and engine performance.
