The tractor you are a partner in is not that complicated to operate, ask your partner for the manual and read up on it if you can, if not get a manual from a dealer.

There is no reason you can't use the tractor you have already put money into for the work you need done. Read the manual and take it slow and easy as you learn how to do it.

If there are slopes involved make sure you go straight up and down them if you feel they are to sleep to safely traverse.

For cutting just three acres I would say just get a wide cut profesional walk behind mower and you would have a lot less of a risk of flip over and it would save you alot of money.
