Spent an hour or so this morning searching for info and reading through threads here about replacement tire options for zero turn mowers.

I just bought a Toro TimeCutter MX5050, which has 20 x 10.00 x 10 turf tires in the back: these are not "cutting" it for my application. Currently, I'm mowing ~ 2 acres, most of which is flat, but some of which is often wet, and I have some hills and side-hills to navigate.

Now, I only have a couple hours in on this mower, but I did spend a couple of summers landscaping in HS and college, running zero turns, so I'm not a total noob.

It's likely that there are some spots in my yard that I will be better served trimming with the string trimmer, and that's fine. But, the way the mower has been handling in the last two sessions I've used it leaves a lot to be desired.

Based on my reading, and what I've heard from friends and neighbors who are familiar with my spot, it sounds like I'd benefit from an ag tire. My "lawn" is native grass which holds up well except in really dry times. I have two dogs that like to dig holes and poop everywhere, we have moles and rodents....I really just like to keep the grass looking nicely-cut, but it's far from a fertilized, aerated, irrigated lawn.

I know there are more turning and speed considerations with ag tires when compared to turf tires, but I can accommodate for that with my turning / driving style, with practice.

I'm having a hard time finding an ag tire in the 20 x 10.00 x 10 size that's currently on the mower, despite an exhaustive search of this forum, and the interwebs. And so, my question is, if I go with something like a 20 x 11 x 10 tire, or 20 x 8 x 10 tire (which seem to have more options), what issues might I run into? Fit / clearance on the bigger tires, then having to readjust the level of the deck on both bigger / smaller tires?

Anyone use anything like the SunF A027 XC ATV UTV Knobby Sport Tires 20x10-10, 6 PR, Tubeless tires, for mowing? Can't yet post a link since I'm newly registered in the forum.

Thanks for any thoughts / tips / feedback.

Having a Z-Turn has cut my mow time in half easily compared to a conventional lawn tractor. However. These things can be a little squirrely on side hills and going down steeper slopes can be a rush for sure but overall no comparison to the POS Husqvarna lawn tractor I used previously. The ag tires do get filled with dirt from "zero-Turning" and can spin on the hills. Seems like anything more aggressive would rip up the yard pretty bad although I have not tried them. They may also stay cleaned out better than turf tires. I brought all this up to the Gravely dealer where I got mine and he had me me bring it down and he put liquid in the tires. This has helped about 60%. I plan to try it for the rest of the year and watch what you put on yours for tires and see how they worked.

I deliberately reduced the size of my wheels from 10" on one ZT and 12" on another to 8" to increase the size of the balloon for a low pressure, softer ride. This pattern has worked best for me after spending several hundred dollars experimenting with different lug types, starting with bar lugs which slipped sideways on pond banks.

If interested, just change the wheel diameter to suit you and plug back into ebay search engine. Have been very happy with their selections, shopping, and shipping....usually have tires in 2 days from date of order and have used multiple sources therein!

@Texasmark, thanks for that suggestion - looks like those are exactly what I need!

So, I went back to the local dealer where I bought my mower, to ask them about tire options, and also to ask about the bent control handle that the mower was delivered with.

For the lever / handle, I thought I was nuts in the first 90 min. of driving the mower, as it felt like the left side was responding differently than the other. I pulled the mower up into my shop, and noticed that the mounting bracket on the left lever is bent by maybe 15°. Asked the dealer about them replacing it, and they said, "yeah, you should just bend it back yourself." I can do that at home, no worries, but thought with a ~$4k purchase, they would have either noticed that issue, or been a little more interested in making it right.

Then, on to the tires: the parts guy told me he could look up some UTV tires that might work better, but told me to come back when the sales guy who sold me the mower was available. He pulled out a bunch of catalogs and flipped through them for about 5 sec. before he blew me off. Trying to do the right thing by supporting the locally owned biz, but not feeling the love, and having a hard time believing they're aware of all the options, since there's not a computer in sight...

ebay has wheels too for a reasonable price. Type may be 8x7, 4x4 ...4 bolts, on 4" spacing if like my 4 bolt patterns on 3 ZTs I have (Ferris, DR Pro Z, Hustler Fastrak), with 8" tire ID like the rims to fit my 8" tires and the 7 is for tire to wheel mounting width. 7" works fine for the tires I bought when run at 10 psig or higher. Most ebay purchases are guaranteed for 90 days or something of the sort. Some sellers take returns. You don't have to put up with that poor service...........

Wheels for 8": 2) Golf Cart Go Kart Riding Lawn Mower RIM WHEEL 8x7 4/4 Silver Zero Offset
( 271801176126 )

Plug that into the ebay search box at the top of the ebay screen. Cost is $60 with free shipping for the pair. They have other wheels or just buy a tire that fits your current rim....they have other sizes.

I paid $105 a piece for the bar tires on my mower. I could have probably ordered them and saved a couple bucks, but this was a local business and they mounted them.
