I recently took delivery of a John Deere Z445 zero turn mower. I have had a JD4310 with a 72" MMM for the last 3 seasons and found it to be just a bit heavy for the lawn especially at the beginning and end of the season. Plus my wife keeps putting more and more obstacles in the lawn. The HST on the 4310 made for fast maneuvering but there was a lot of forward/reverse action and I was scuffing the grass in some of the shady areas with the combination of weaker root system and tight turns.
The Z445 is a blast to mow with. The part of the lawn I hated the most (several small fruit trees and other trees with a 6 - 8' mulch circle) is now a breeze. The Z445 has a 54" deck and I am expecting to about break even on time vs. the 72" on the 4310. Prior to the 4310 I had a JD 755 with a 60" MMM. The 4310 did not save much time over the 755. The 4310 mows great but the R3 tires do leave an imprint in the grass that takes a day or 2 to disappear so the lawn does not look all that great immediately after a mow.
The 4310 will still get used for mowing 3 acres of pasture, a 10' wide path around the outside of the pasture that has up and down slopes and along the banks of a small stream that runs along the edge of the property.
