We have narrowed our search for a tractor to the 1430 series I think. In the past few days we were approached about the possibility of a used low hour 1445. This is pretty exciting to me as this tractor is going to be beat up bad in the first year of use, and the extra HP is always a good thing.

This said, a call to PT today put some doubt in my mind. They informed me that the older 1445 had a cables that controlled the drive system, and that in 04 the systems were revamped with newer pumps, motors and controls. Terry is out, so I am getting this through the rest of the crew. They were nuetral on the changes, so does anyone here have a strong opinion if this will matter to us or not?

Also, this tractor has R-4's (industrial) tires. I feel we will need bar tires and maybe wider ones. Is this possible and does anyone have a source?

Thanks

Carl

I am looking to get either a new 425 or a used 1430/1445 so it is nice to see that they show up at least rarely. It will be interesting to see what people have to say about the differences.

Yes it is encouraging. I'd like to kind a used 1430 and have a 425 QA put on it so I could use all my current attachments... :p

Could you go ahead and try that and see how the attachments hold up. I would like to do that also.

I spent months looking for a used 1430 or a 1445 but didnot find any I thought would be a good value. The 425 attachments on a 1430 would probably work ok after you modified the QA. The 1430 is wider so that may affect things like a finish mower.

What is encouraging to me is that there are so few for sale. Means people like them and they last, (or that they are unsellable, or that not many have been sold ;-)

I have the 60" finish mower and it would be only the 48" rough-cut that might be an issue -- but heck, I have those issues with my reversed wheels.

BobRip, I think many of the attachments themselves are the same except for the mounting plates. The others seem to differ only in size (wider buckets, etc.)... When I was in Tazewell, I looked closely at new 1430 attachments in the showroom, and I couldn't see any differences other than physical size... the metal seems to be the same guage, etc.

I simply MUST get more torque to handle my hillsides -- the 1430 would provide that (did you note where it has twice the pulling power of the 425 in the other post?).

If the "re-plumbing" that I'm considering doesn't provide it for my 425, I'm not sure I'd be willing to spend $2K or so just to upgrade the wheel motors and perhaps much more if I also need to upgrade the pump...

KentT, I will try to go up there this year and will look very closely at what the sizes of the attachments are. I have at least $10,000 in attachments by now, so I feel I have to use them. Hopefully someone will try this. I should probably give Terry a call and see what he thinks. The bigwheel 425 looks good also.
