New Tractor Tips

Aloha!

I have one and a half acres and I am waiting on delivery of a new Jinma 254 with 4 in 1 loader and backhoe.

This is my first tractor and I'm hoping to receive some tips from members about Jinma specifically, and having a small tractor in general. I read that it's a good idea to change out the fluids upon receiving a tractor from China.

I don't anticipate putting lots of hours per year on the tractor, but operation and maintenance ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks to all of you

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Your Owners manual will (should, if it's been translated properly ) include everything you need to know about servicing your rig. Advice is to read it front-to-back as soon as you get it, then re-read it as you become more familiar.

Check that the dealership has indeed prepared your tractor for delivery... especially torqued nuts. That includes your wheel nuts as there are a few stories here on TBN about wheels falling off after delivery. This pertains to all brands (or 'colours' as we like to refer to them).

Other than that, take your time and go slow at first... after that? DON'T GET COCKY! :laughing:

Know your tractor, it's implements and how they work.

Never be in a hurry or take chances about anything you do with your tractor.

Try not to ever go downhill sideslope or diagonal forward. You are not on 4 wheels point of contact like you first think like a pickup.
The front axle is attached in the center under the tractor on a pivot. So now you have the same suspension as your little red wagon or your tricycle. And everyone probably has a skinned knee or two learning how easy they were to turn over!

I'll second the read your manual front to back.. Also when carrying loads in your bucket keep it low, don't transport with your bucket raised above the hood of your tractor if possible. When you get a heavy load in a fully raised bucket and try to turn, you can flip your tractor.

Good luck and just do every little job with your tractor to get the practice. I do, it is also much more fun and you will get good with it soon. Be patient it isn't as easy as it may look to get good with a front loader.

As far as changing your fluid because it is from China, I'm not sure... but I would check all fluid levels right away. I would change oil after just a few hours.. less than 10 hours.
