Tractor
1993 John Deere 755
So... I finally did it, after years of looking I finally pulled the trigger on a 1993 JD 755, with a FEL, box blade, bush hog, and belly mower. I was having some serious thoughts on buying new with the 0% interest rate for 60 months that was being offered, but I decided to baby step it and try used first.

With this being said, what are the first things that I should do maintenance wise to the tractor. How hard is it to change the oil on these things, pretty straight forward, or is there anything additional I should know, like what kind of oil to purchase?

:welcome:
To the TBN forum SwampLife. We are glad that you joined.

Congrats on the new to you tractor.

1. First thing is to check and change all your fluids and filters.
2. Check for leaks.
3. Check and tighten all the bolts and nuts.

If you find anything that you need an answer for, just ask.

Agree with mddorange. Oil and filter on the engine ought to be very easy; might need to get an adjustable (NAPA) oil filter wrench because of possible tight clearance to get the filter off. If it's hydro, changing fluid and filter on it is very different from tractor to tractor. Coolant should also be changed. If it's like the 4010, there's a vent on the thermostat housing. Use that, and both draining and refilling the coolant will be easy. Had the same (just a bolt) vent on the thermostat housing on our old 1983 240D Benz. It was the easiest car in the world to work on. Keep kicking myself for selling it.

Include gear old on the bush hog. Tilt it on its side if you don't have an oil extractor.

Welcome to the forum! I have owned two JD 750's in the past, and now own a JD 790. For changing the oil, I've always used the Shell Rotella T, I think it was the 10-W40 weight. That's going by memory as my manual is where I keep my tractor at. If you don't have a manual, you should try and get one. The Shell Rotella T is a good oil to use for diesel engines. Also, whenever you change out the radiator fluid, be aware that there is a radiator fluid designed just for diesel engines, so be sure to check on that before you buy any. As long as you keep those little Yanmar engines well maintained, they will last just about forever. Also get a grease gun and grease all the fittings cause there are bunch of them! You can use a good lithium grease for that. Good luck with it!

Awesome dude? Where are the photographs? How many hours? That is totally fine to baby step in....you can see how you like being a part of the tractor community, and using your tractor. If you like it....you can likely sell that thing to another comrade or keep it.....most likely will not loose any or very little when it is time to trade. The 0% is very nice, but the depreciation associated with the 0% stinks if you think you will trade.
