Hello all, I am the newbie here. I just bought a MT372 and have a couple of questions maybe someone here can assist me with. It is the US version with the 6spline clockwise PTO shaft with 2cyl diesel. I plan on getting some manuals on it for sure. We also have two Ford 3000D on our farm but I have never owned a compact before. I paid $1600 for it --too much???

1. Everything runs fine on this tractor except the lift is stuck in the UP position and will not go down. I have turned the rate knob under the seat to unlock but it still will not go down even with two big guys standing on it.
Any ideas? I 'm not going to have to take the valve box apart am I?

2. Steering has about 6inches of play in it. Is this above normal? Any way to tighten it up?

3. Is the PTO a 3 speed with 540/770/1000 speeds like on most larger tractors?

Also, Any pointers or suggestions for the tractor in general? I plan on getting some AG tires and media blasting all the metal and repainting hood/fenders..etc in the future.

I am sure I will have many more questions to come so bear with me. I used the Gravely 2wheel tractors for 10 years or so before buying this one this week. Don't hold that against me either:)

Here are a couple of pics of the diamond in the rough!

Geez, 37 views and not even a Hello reply.

Bil, welcome to TBN, the 3 ph may have over-extended on the control handle and will not allow the hitch to go down. Not sure if you could relieve the pressure somehow and get it down or not. Usually an o-ring gets damaged if it goes up too far. Nice looking little machine. Good luck with it.

Hello and Welcome to TBN.:)
I'm not up on prices but that sounds like a good deal you got to me. Some of the others that have that size or maybe one of the dealers that are members will be able to tell you how good it was.
When you turned the knob under the seat, did you check to see if the shaft was indeed turning or just the knob?

Is there a gearbox at the bottom of the shaft off of the steering wheel? It looks direct drive to me, 6" would be far more play than normal (at least I would think anyway) if there is a gearbox, there may be a bolt with a screw slot and a locknut on it. Might possibly get some of the slack out. My tractor has 540 and 1000 rpm on the pto, lots of the grey market tractors have 3 speeds though. How many hp is this tractor? It looks solid enough from the pictures.

It is a 15hp. I looked forever and could not find anything really decent for less than about $2800 until I found this one. A little TLC and it will shape up.

I think there is a square plug under the knob that may release the pressure, I have not had any experience with hydrolics on tractors. The knob feels like there is resistance on it when I turn it and not stipped out.

I will look further into the steering when I get it home. Trying to find decals now so when I repaint.

I still have to find a place for my old faithful Gravely to to home to. I will shed a tear when she leaves me as she has been very good for the last 7 years. A real workhorse for a 7.6hp tractor.

thanks for the input.

"Here are a couple of pics of the diamond in the rough!"

Cool! as the Mitsu logo being a diamond!

Hi, I also have a Mitsubishi, the MT180D which is a US version, 3 cyl on basically the same frame/body as yours.
Nice unit- a real work horse (for me).

As to decals-forget it, simply not available, I know I tried!

I plan to photo mine and have them reproduced by an Ebay supplier that does that sort of thing at reasonable prices.

You are lucky as your PTO turns the right way, many imports are reverse and few attachements fit.

You have the same tractor I have. Mine was free so yes you paid too much:)

My 3pt stuck in the up position once after sitting for several months, I put the bushhog on it and jumped up and down on it till it broke free...the piston was stuck....that was fours years ago, it has not failed to operate since. It will stay in the up position for as long as I leave it there also.

I would recommend you change all oils and clean the hyd screen, it is located on the r/h side in ft on the rear tire held in by two bolts. It holds a little over three gallons. I just used Mystik UDT fluid.

Eng oil filter is Wix # 51365

Be sure to lube the ball detents on the pto and hi/lo range levers, they get sticky.
My steering is still good so I have not had to mess with that yet.

Get a suspension seat and throw that hard beat you to death seat away, your backside will thank you.
Installing a suspension seat "WILL" require modification to whatever seat base you get.

These are great little tractors, I use mine for many chores, watering trees, tilling, bushogging and pulling trailers.

Great buy and have fun:)

Great, wushaw! What condition are your hood decals? I am looking to find someone with good ones to scan and make some new ones.

I will try putting weight on mine to see if it breaks loose.

thanks for the info.

They look like this.

Not real good but readable.

Something else you might do on the 3pt is pull the 3pt valve cover off ( I think 4 bolts) and squirt some penetrating oil around the piston to help break it loose. I pulled this cover off to see what was up with mine but couldn't see what was up and decided to hang weight on the 3pt and hop up and down. I guess if I put some penetrationg oil on it it may have broke loose easier.

I had an old Massey that would stick in the up position if you raised the 3pt too high. The linkage that kept it from doing so was gone and the piston would pop out of the cylinder. I had to remove the cover several times to pop it back in. I finally welded a piece of steel on the inside of the cover that stopped the piston from moving too far.

Great, thanks for the info. I will probably have to pull the cover off and check the piston.

I will definately be pursuing the decals as I would like to have new again. Whatever comes out I will share it with others here too.

thanks again,

Bill

That thing almost looks like my Ford 1100, but it was only 13 hp, so can't be the same. I bet the extra wheels i have will bolt right on that 6 lug pattern.

Thanks guys. I would like to have a set of extra rear wheels and put some AG 8-16 tires on them. I want to keep the turf tires for aerating, fert my 3 acre yard. That was another reason for buying a tractor, to till the garden and use in the yard.

Your gonna need more weight on the ft. for using a tiller.
My tiller weighs 400lbs and I had 179 lbs and it was a little light....tires would get some air on ocassion but it worked, I added more weight (354 total) and I haven't tried it yet but I feel I should have no problems with the weight anymore.

I plan on either buying a front bumper/grill with weights or making something that works when using heavy attachments.

Any ideas?
