I just bought a new 450 norse winch and Im fairly dissapointed. I used to haul logs with just a few chains and a bar, but decided to spent the 4 grand and buy a winch, I think I could haul more with just the chains. I am using it on a tc 55 .... I basically want the winch to pull or pull over the tractor.. What rpm do you guys use yours at. I was told today to run it at around 1000 rpm,s but I have no power. I just think I have a lemon. let me know. thanks. I was trying to haul out firewood, but was expecting to haul pine logs. If this thing cant haul firewood how will it haul out logs, help me out please.

I'm not that familiar with your winch. Is the tractor running ok itself? What is the winch rated at? Maybe call the manufacturer themselves and ask them for some advise. Check their website also. That is a hydraulic winch correct? Do you have it plumbed to the right side of the hydraulic circuit? I just cut and pasted the spec's for that winch here. It should pull my old 58 Pontiac Chieftain with no problem.
Pull - 1st Layer: 10,116 lbs.
Tractor Output: 40-90 hp.
Cable: 3/8" x 165'
3-Point Hitch: Cat. 1 or 2
Cable Speed: 6 Ft. / Sec.
P.T.O. Shaft: W2200
Weight of Winch w/o Cable: 573 lbs.
Height: 76"
Width: 60"
Hinged Butt Plate: Yes

Hi Norse:

I have a Farmi 350 on a JD 3320. This is a size down (20-40 hp) from yours. The Norse is the same general design as the Farmi and should perform similarly. I really like the Farmi for speed of use and safety and it is a real work horse. There is no way my tractor and a chain could yank out the tough logs I have done with the winch. Without the winch dozer blade down it will drag (from the low pully) the tractor backward up a hill with all four wheels locked. There is nothing in my manual about slow operating RPM and I run it up to PTO speed, or even max when I have a difficult pull. The winch is designed to handle the Hp that it is rated for. Is your only problem that it doesn't pull hard enough? Give more detail on the problems you are having.

Steve

hey there thank you for replying. I have figured out the problem, the cluch wasnt adjusted correctly from the factory, and it was only getting around 1500 lbs of pull. It is a 10,200 lb pull winch. I ended up taking it back to the dealership that I bought it from. I just bought it yesterday, and I was not happy. I have a best friend that is in charge of the shop, and I hate to tell him that I hate the winch, but I had to tell him that I just cant pull with the winch what I could with the tractor alone. He said something isnt right, and looked at it. we ended up finding out that from the factory that they hadnt set tension on the winch, so that when I pulled on the string that the rod would bottom out. We fixed it tonight, and I pulled my tractor across a parking lot for like 90 feet. I am going to cut wood with him tomorrow, so I can see what he thinks, and so We are both on the same page. I really think I will enjoy the winch once I get it figured out. I was so upset last night. I spent 4 grand on a winch that wouldnt even pull one hardwood that was 18 inches at the butt. Hey thanks again for replying and I appreciate it. hope I can help you some dayl.
