Well, I sold my dearly beloved M4700 this morning to my neighbor and am now awaiting the call from my friend who is a dealer to let me know he has picked up mu new tractor. It's a year old M7040, 4x4,hydraulic shuttle, cab, three remotes, and all available accessories with 80 hours on the clock. My M4700 has served me well for many years but the dream of having a cab tractor has gotten too strong for me to handle so when I found out he had this one coming in I jumped at it. As soon as I get it I'll post some pics.

May I ask what the price was for just the tractor and cab? (and loader if it had one)

The M7040 4x4 cab tractor, LA1153 loader, with hydraulic shuttle, two remotes, an Alpine AM/FM/CD radio, rear wiper washer, loaded rear tires, and I paid $30,000 even. Tractor has 80 hrs and the full 50 hr service was done.

I got it on Saturday and plan on taking some pics tonight and posting them in the morning. This thing is a Cadillac, I can tell you that for sure. Wish I would have had it at the start of hay season instead of at the end.

Nice rig. Have had my 7040 for a year now, never looked back. As the pto hp is 62, assume you must have some smaller-mid sized bailers for that range? Any you you'll love the hyd. shuttle. A common problem w/new hyd. shuttles ( including mine) is that they were improperly adj. from the factory. So keep an eye that the rig is engaging fully. good luck

Been too busy driving it to take any pictures! Fed hay and moved some bale feeders with it last night. I got to feed some more hay tonight so I'll remember to take some pictures and post tomorrow. I do not know how I ever did without this thing?

That's a great price for all that tractor. I'm looking at used M6800 4x4's with cab & loader in the upper 20's. 30 grand with low financing (or even without low financing) is worth the extra few thousand because you get a warranty and a newer, nicer rig.

Does the 7040 come with a front locking differential? Is it basically the replacement for the M6800?

The M6800 is a nice tractor. The 7040 is just a newer and improved version of the 6800. One thing that is a far cry better is the cab. I am 6'6" tall and the cabs on the old M series were tight for me to be comfortable, this new one is much bigger. The A/C is more powerful also. As far as the locking front diff I truly do not know, mine has one pedal where the diff lock normally is and I presume that is for the rear? But I'll have to look closer, there may be two pedals there? Heck, I haven't even had it in four wheel drive yet as it has been a real dry year. It sure seems like the used cab 4x4 tractors bring a heck of a price. I figure I can't get hurt too bad at $30g's tied up in my 7040?

On a side note, there's only one guy I know that has a IH 4x4 dump, and that was Duke from the old days at GM diesel.com. Is that you? I see you have a GMC in your sig?
