I picked up an older, used, 3pt, finish mower. I was handed two spare tubes and one new tire was mounted - it obviously didn’t hold air in the tubeless configuration. I was so focused on trying to seat the new tire that I didn’t notice the rest of the tires until I got it home. The other three tires are filled with a black gook. They won’t take air and they show the appearance of an under inflated tire.

I attempted to mow as it was configured. 10 minutes later I see that I have rolled a tire off the rim.

I pulled all four wheels off and plan to take the to a local small equipment dealer. (The same dealer that have gotten several quotes from - but have purchased very little out side of parts )

I’m looking for suggestions: Do I get new wheels with tubes? New solid wheels? Do I ask them to remove the black gook and install tubes and remount? Is rolling the tire off the rim common?

We only have solid tires on our 3PH mowers. I hate flat tires. :)

I致e got a similar problem with my landpride mower. If the tire pressure gets too low you break the bead. I壇 suggest inner tubes and check tire pressures every time before you head out as part of your circle check.

I found some nice inner tubes at TSC with long metal valve stems with a dog leg angle in them. Makes it easier to get the valve cover off and fill the tires on the tiny little rims.

I bought set of 4 solid from High Grade Manufacturing for my Land Pride 5 foot & my Frontier 7 foot, they have laminated & solid. You get new wheel & tire for around $30 to $35 depending on size.

I did the same on my mower...got them from Atwood's for around $40 each. Haven't had to deal with flats for years...money well spent. I'm not sure why any manufacturer uses air-filled FM tires...

I also picked up a used 7 foot rear land pride finish mower. I had one flat smooth tire and one working knobby tire the previous owners had replaced. Every time that knobby tire spun when I went from forward to reverse it tore a divot if even a little bit wet ground. I ordered my pneumatic replacement tires from surplus center. I bought 4 just in case but 7 years later still have the 2 stored. I only add air once a year. I think they were about 25 each. They also have greasable axles. It was easy to match axle bore, width (I added about 4 washers per tire as spacers) and tire size. Good luck

I bought a used 7 foot Landpride finish mower with the same problem. I tried fixing the flats and I bought new tubes that just had flats right away. I looked at other Landpride finish mowers online and found that some of them come with solid tires, so I bought four. They didn't even come close to fitting, so I had to get new bolts for axles, and add shims to get my height right. It took more effort then I had expected, but the results where worthwhile compared to dealing with so many flat tires.

Then I didn't use it for a few years and my solid tires rotted away on me, which is how it's been sitting for the last couple of years. I'm debating selling it, fixing it, or just leaving it for now and when I have a barn big enough to store it out of the sun, then replacing the solid tires with new solid tires.

I wouldn't run pneumatic tires on any agricultural type mower, except a batwing or mo-co.

I'd recommend solids but the solids I bought had a real thin wheel material and on what you have I doubt it would stand up to the stress if rough terrain...solids don't compress with shock.....might as have a steel wheel. BTDT
