New (to me) JD 4700

Thanks! Yeah, it was a lucky find. It is a little bigger than what I was looking for. 4500-4600 but couldn't pass up the deal. Had to kick in $4500 but still feel, I made out on the deal. They (dealers) probably feel the same way. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Win-Win.

That's a great tractor. You will really like it. Not much you can't do with one. You didn't miss anything with the 4600. Same exact tractor in every way except a few more hp with the 4700.

I like mine a lot. Use it almost every day. You'll find yourself looking for more attachments with a good tractor like this however. It's really too small for serious ag work. You can pull a 6 ft disc harrow but in hot weather after a few hours the engine will begin to overheat.

I don't plan on doing any serious ag work for extended periods of time. I will be doing some logging/clearing with it. Both for me and my neighbor. Did some with my 4300. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif found out just how tippy it was... Also was working it (4300) real hard.

This is way more stable and it is not working it anywhere near as hard. It is not a skidder by any means but I can hook up a couple of trees and pull them out without any problems. Had to buck up the trees in 16ft pieces with the 4300. Can get the job done just a little more work and a little more time.

Now for the new attachments. Talking to my little hunny about a winch!!!! I am not picky, it can be used and not I'm not tied to any one brand either. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Anyone know about one???

If you're still under warranty I would have your tractor looked at. I've used an 8' woods mower all day long. Drug a 10' disc all day, harrowed all day, raked hay, hauled 1500 lb. round bales, etc. and mine has never came close to overheating. If yours is overheating from pulling a 6' disc harrow something is not right.

Do you have any of the hydraulics that are trying to work when they should not be?IE: A stuck lever .... What I mean is,on my 4 in 1 loader,I was having a problem with my JD 4400 overheating and not being able to lift my implements all the way and come to find out the handle that causes the 4 in 1 bucket to open and close in the center was pulled back too far and causing the hydraulics to over work and thus robbing power and causing the tractor to overheat....

On a JD4700 I don't think he could still be under warrantee. Too old. But I agree with cowboydoc. I owned a JD4700 for about 10 years, used it mostly on steep ground with a 6ft hog and often in hot weather. Also heavy FEL work. I never saw anything get it even close to the red zone much less hot. Mine was a PowerReverser std trans, not hydrostatic. Had oversize tires & fluid loaded. 4-in-1 bucket. It was simply a great tractor. RichS-- With only 383 hrs on it you should have a "machine for life" there ! I don't know what serious ag work is but the 4700 is as good as any 48 horse class around.
