I recently picked up a 2007 Can-am Outlander Max XT - the 2UP machine. Purchased from an older gentleman who seems to have cared for it well. He said he serviced it last two years ago so I should be doing it now.

As I understand it the machine has engine oil, differential oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, brake fluid and coolant. Should I be replacing all of these?

Contacted a local dealer and they will charge $199 for a 'tune-up' + parts. This would include oil and oil filter change. Cleaning air and fuel filter and checking and topping up other fluids.

Time is always painful for me to find to do the things I want so I'm considering getting them to do a wholesale change of all fluids and then doing just engine oil yearly starting next year.

What do you guys think?

Any thing else that should be done on these machines as preventative maintenance? Any known problems?

Have 2007 800 MAX LTD

You have engine oil that needs to be a higher end part or full synthetic be careful on drain plug torque as they have aluminum threads and strip easy requiring a Timesert thread insert. The differential requires a usually a good 80- 90 gear oil, gearbox/transmission older manuals called for BRP chaincase oil but newer ones say go with 80-90 gear oil.

I have cleaned the air filters before and reused.

Also thinking the brake is DOT 4 and there is a handle bar master for front and rear and a foot master for rear only probably bleeding old out would be good idea.

The fuel filter on the 800 fuel injected is a small can type that uses Oetiker clamps, have never replaced one but carry extra with Oetiker clamps and pliers.

On coolant I just use regular Prestone green with a little Water Wetter because the 800 puts out much heat on the twin cylinder there are air bleed screws on top of the hose adapters to the cylinder head

Now for things dealers skip and you need to do

Check valve adjustment, this should help

On the primary clutch there are one way clutches that need lubricating every 100 hours using the Kluber Isoflex Topas NB 52 grease, FEW greases meet the specs of this grease.

Current price of the 004131-221 50 gram tube is just under $24

For the valves and clutch servicing a copy of the service manual is highly recommended

I also keep my fuel tank full most the time as it cools the in tank pump and they have been known to go bad and cause stalling. Someone has identified replacement as a Airtex E8213

The CanAm forums board has a lot of good info.
