I've been wanting to get a #7 backhoe for my 790 for quite a while. I see them on ebay rarely but always too far, too banged up or too costly. I finally found one at a price I could deal with and pulled the trigger. It's got a 9" bucket on it but I will need something bigger. I'm thinking 16". I've seen from some other posts (and some conflicting JD part info) that the BM19557-BM19560 range of buckets will fit the #7. JD dealer near is telling me the 16" for the #7 is BM17638 and it's NLA. Anyone have a clue as to where I might find a bucket for this backhoe?

I have a Chinese backhoe and needed a 6" bucket for trenching so I made my own.
I made a cardboard template of the sides of the 16", cut it out of 1/4" steel and added 6" metal for spacing.
Making the mounting flanges was the hardest part but not bad.
I bought a different new hoe and had to change the mounting for the new one.
You might need to have one fabricated. ??

That's one option. I have seen people cutting off the mounting flanges off a bucket and welding new ones on with the correct hole pattern and spacing.

Looks like the BM19559 16" is still available form JD for $561. Wish I could find a used one.

Hey Wsmitty, are you interested in selling your 9" bucket? I need to do a trench and I only have an 18" (that I want to keep too, sorry), and haven't been able to find any ~6" buckets that would work as far as I can tell. What did you find out about compatibility between the newer and older bucket mounts?

You can, but it might take years. Dont feel so bad, my 12 inch bucket was just under $1000.

I was able to find a new BM19669 16" for $460 delivered which seems like a pretty good deal to me based on the feedback from others. I would not be willing to let the 9" go as I have quite a bit of trenching to do as well. The BM15597-BM19560 series will fit the 7 backhoe. I think these also are also used on the 47 and 375 series hoes as well.
